PKL 11: Key battles to watch out for in match 40, Haryana Steelers vs Gujarat Giants

Both teams are coming into the match following a loss in PKL 11.

The Pro Kabaddi League Season 11 (PKL 11) has been able to bring to the stadium some of the most fascinating matches, and Match 40 is another one coming up with some excitement with Haryana Steelers taking on Gujarat Giants at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium.Haryana Steelers, coming off a narrow 40-38 loss to Bengal Warriors, will be eager to bounce back and Gujarat Giants will look for a solid recovery in PKL 11 after getting thrashed by Puneri Paltan 49-30.

As these teams prepare to lock horns in this crucial PKL 11 encounter, several key individual battles could potentially decide the outcome of the match.

Mohammadreza Shadloui (Haryana) vs Himanshu Singh (Gujarat)

Himanshu Singh and Mohammadreza Shadloui will be up against each other. Himanshu has done pretty well for Gujarat Giants in offence while Shadloui has been rock solid in defence in PKL 11.

Himanshu has been putting up consistent numbers, bagging 26 points across 5 matches with an impressive 80% survival rate in raids. His ability to wriggle out of tricky situations has made him a very reliable scorer, scoring on average 4.4 raid points per match.In his way is Iranian sensation Shadloui, whose versatility has been on full display with 27 points in 5 matches. What makes this match spicy is Shadloui’s dual threat, not just a defender but sneaking in crucial raid points, averaging 2.4 per match and an 86% survival rate. His defensive statistics in PKL 11 are equal, where he earned 15 tackle points and 2 Super Tackles which show that he has the skill to bring down raiders.

Vinay (Haryana) vs Sombir (Gujarat)

Vinay, coming off an impressive 10-point performance against Bengal Warriors, will face Gujarat’s cornerstone defender Sombir. Sombir has been Gujarat’s most successful tackler in PKL 11 with one super tackle and two high 5. 

Sombir also boasts of 48% successful tackle percentage which makes him very potent. And this battle between Haryana’s main raider and Gujarat’s defensive specialist might prove to be the match-decider.

Rahul Sethpal (Haryana) vs Parteek Dahiya (Gujarat)

A rather interesting offence vs defence contest is likely to play out between Parteek Dahiya and Rahul Sethpal. Dahiya has had his moments but has been hot and cold in PKL 11 – scoring 18 points in 5 matches but slightly inconsistent. Dahiya’s raid success rate shows he’s a risk taker, one who hasn’t been very lucky recently, at just 35%. 

There comes Sethpal, the defensive specialist who has racked up 12 tackle points with an average of 2.4 successful tackles per match. What makes him dangerous is his perfect survival rate of 100% – that is, when he goes for a tackle, he rarely puts his team at risk.
