PKL 11: Key battles to watch out for in match 13 Bengal Warriorz vs UP Yoddhas

UP Yoddhas will aim for their third consecutive win in PKL 11.

Two sides with contrasting starts to the Pro Kabaddi League season 11 (PKL 11) will lock horns for the 13th match. With two wins from two games, UP Yoddhas who have got off to a brilliant start in PKL 11 will play Bengal Warriorz as they eye to keep their momentum.

There were questions about the team’s defence going into the PKL 11, as they had let go of their skipper and primary defender Nitesh Kumar. But the team have responded with wins against two raiding giants in Naveen Kumar’s Dabang Delhi and Pardeep Narwal’s Bengaluru Bulls.

They would want to repeat it against Maninder Singh and Bengal Warriorz. But it won’t be easy as their former skipper Fazel Atrachali has joined the Warriorz setup in PKL 11.

The season seven champions, Bengal Warriorz were on the losing side in their PKL 11 opening encounter against Jaipur Pink Panthers and they would want to turn the tide quickly.

With multiple stars in their side, they were one of the favourites and the Warriorz would want to live up to the tag. With stars in the fray, there will be a few battles that could decide the contest. Here’s the top battles for the day.

Fazel Atrachali vs Surender Gill

Fazel Atrachali is the most successful defender in the history of the league. He has dominated most of his opponents and has an aura every time when he steps onto the field. But somehow, he hasn’t been able to create an impact against the UP Yoddhas in PKL 11.

In the last four seasons, he has only one High-5 against the Yoddhas. Surender Gill is one man who has troubled the Iranian in those contests. With a sleek and a fit stature along with his height, he has been able to escape the holds of Fazel.

While Gill might have the upper hand, the Iranian produced one of the moments of the league in season nine, when he single-handedly tackled him with a backhold after the raider was blind-sided for a second. These two will be fighting it out to produce another classic.

Sahul Kumar vs Maninder Singh

Maninder and his association with Bengal Warriorz is a long-standing one as he has been contributing to the season seven champions year after year. The left raider started on a subtle note against Jaipur Pink Panthers with eight points. He would like to get to a Super 10 in PKL 11 and help his team notch up a win.

He will be challenged by a former Pink Panther, now in Yoddhas colours, Sahul Kumar. The experienced defender seems to have adapted to the Yoddhas setup very well and he showed it with a High-5 in his debut game for them against a strong Dabang Delhi team in PKL 11. If he can stop Maninder, then Yoddhas could register their third straight win of the PKL 11.

Nitin Dhankar vs Sumit Sangwan

Amongst the big names, two youngsters would be eager to make a mark in Thursday’s evening PKL 11 contest. Nitin Kumar of Bengal Warriorz continued from where he left last season with a 13-point performance against the likes of Surjeet Singh, Ankush Rathee, and Reza Mirbagheri.

On the other hand, Sumit Sangwan at the left corner was unstoppable in the last game with nine tackle points which included two super tackles against Bengaluru Bulls. On a day when Pardeep Narwal had scored 16 points, Sumit was having a ball. Both youngsters would want to outdo each other and will be a fascinating contest to watch out for in PKL 11.
