PKL 11: UP Yoddhas' Bhavani Rajput reveals reason behind his success in Pro Kabaddi 2024
UP Yoddhas are at third place in the PKL 11 points table.
UP Yoddhas delivered a statement performance in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL 11), demolishing Gujarat Giants 59-23 at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Thursday. The emphatic victory, fueled by Gagan Gowda’s spectacular 19-point raid performance, extended their unbeaten streak to eight games and strengthened their push for a coveted top-two finish.
The 36-point margin reflected UP Yoddhas‘ complete dominance, with Bhavani Rajput’s Super 10 and Sumit’s High 5 highlighting a well-rounded team performance. Defender Mahendra Singh expressed satisfaction with how the team has addressed their earlier shortcomings. “We were making small mistakes in our earlier matches, but we’ve worked on those issues. Now we’ve found the right combination, everyone performed well, and it was crucial for us as we head into the playoffs,” he said.

The victory was particularly significant as it helped the team cover important ground in terms of points difference, a factor that could prove crucial in the race for the top spots. As head coach Jasveer Singh noted, “This was necessary. We needed to cover the point difference that was developing, and the team managed that well today.”
Bhavani Rajput on his performance in PKL 11
Bhavani Rajput, who performed consistently throughout the season, attributed her success to the supportive environment of the team. “They’ve given us complete freedom to play our natural game. The only requirement is to score points, and this freedom, combined with excellent support from both the defence and raiders like Gagan, has helped eliminate pressure and improve performance,” Rajput explained.
The team’s resurgence has come at the perfect time, with the playoffs approaching. The coaching staff emphasized the importance of this momentum: “Confidence is crucial at this stage as we head into the playoffs. It increases trust between teammates, showing that anyone can perform when needed. This was very important for the playoffs, and the team is peaking at the right time.”
The victory was particularly sweet for the Yoddhas as it came after a period where they had lost some close matches. The team’s senior players have played a crucial role in helping the younger members overcome these challenges.
As team leaders explained, “We have many new players who play with power and new skills. After losing four consecutive close matches, we worked specifically on the mistakes in both defense and raiding. The results are now showing as we’ve corrected those errors.”
With this comprehensive victory, UP Yoddhas have not only demonstrated their title-winning ability but also their team depth and ability to perform under pressure. As they continue their pursuit of a top-two finish, their current form suggests they could be the team to beat in the business end of the tournament.
