Surender Gill has missed three back-to-back matches for UP Yoddhas in PKL 11

In a gripping Pro Kabaddi 2024 (PKL 11) showdown, UP Yoddhas pulled off a stunning 44-42 victory against Patna Pirates, thanks to the heroics of raiding duo Bhavani Rajput and Gagan Gowda.

Speaking to the media, UP Yoddhas followed by Patna Pirates coach and player Ankit Jaglan spoke to the media following the PKL 11 match.

On Sumit Sangwan’s injury

Despite Devank Dalal’s phenomenal 18-point performance and a Super 10 from Ayan Lohchab, the Yoddhas staged a second-half comeback, with Gowda’s Super Raid and Hitesh’s Super Tackle being the defining moments. However, the win saw UP Yoddhas vice-captain Sumit Sangwar suffer a huge blow.

“Sumit had a cut but it is nothing too big, he is fine and will play the next match,” said UP Yoddhas coach.

On Surender Gill’s return to PKL 11

Patna Pirates started strong, led by Devank Dalal’s five raid points in the opening 10 minutes. An ALL OUT inflicted by Patna around the 14th minute gave them a six-point cushion, ending the first half at 25-21 in their favour. Yoddhas were without their star raider and captain Surender Gill.

“Surender is fit and you will see him on the mat soon, ” he added.

On the loss in PKL 11

However, the Yoddhas regrouped in the second half. Gagan Gowda’s Super Raid, which dismissed three players, turned the tide. His first Super 10 of PKL 11 kept the team’s momentum alive.

“See when your raiders are bringing in 28-30 points in a match and you are losing, then the problem is with the defence, ” said Patna Pirates coach.

Hitesh’s clutch Super Tackle on Ayan Lohchab levelled the score, and his follow-up tackle on Dalal secured a narrow lead. Ultimately, Bhavani and Gagan’s brilliance helped UP Yoddhas seal a thrilling victory in this PKL 11 classic.

“We still have one day to go before our next match, so we will take our time, strategize and play with a better defence, ” Ankit Jaglan concluded.
