On the plan ahead in PKL 11
The Gujarat Giants dominated much of the game, but a determined late surge from the Pirates ensured the points were shared. For Patna, Devank shone with a crucial Super 10, while Sudhakar M chipped in with seven points. On the other hand, Gujarat’s Rakesh top-scored with nine points, supported ably by Guman Singh and Jitender Yadav, who added eight points each.
“Our thought process was also to win today’s match by a big margin to maintain our top position on the table so that the competition is between the top two, but we could not get it (the win) so it’s ok. The mistakes we made on the defence and offence, we will work hard on them and make plans. The teams we face next, we will plan as per their offence and defence and you will see better matches.” said Patna Pirates coach.
On Gujarat Giants’ season in PKL 11
The Gujarat Giants started strong, inflicting an early ALL OUT to establish a six-point lead. Their combination of Guman, Neeraj, and Jitender looked unstoppable in the first half, keeping the Pirates at bay. However, Devank and Ayan slowly clawed back, reducing the deficit to 22-18 by halftime.
“We will try (to finish with high spirits). As I told the players – the calibre that you have, the training that you have done, play with 80% of that and we will win matches. If we lose, no matter. But today, they made an effort, ” said the Gujarat Giants coach.
The second half saw Patna Pirates come alive. Devank spearheaded the comeback, supported by timely defensive efforts, bringing the Giants’ lead down to just two points after an ALL OUT. The match turned into a tense back-and-forth, with the Giants relying on Super Tackles to stay ahead.
“As coach told us, you play with all out. You can win or lose matches, but play for your prestige. We will go the next match with that intent.. we will fight like we did today,” added captain Neeraj Kumar.
In the final minutes, Ayan’s crucial ALL OUT and Devank’s last-second efforts ensured the game ended in a tie, adding another riveting chapter to PKL 11.
