A total of 26 players were sold on the first day of the PKL 12 auction.

The first day of the Pro Kabaddi League season 12 auction (PKL 12) was held on Saturday. Now, Day 2 is set to be held on June 1 in Mumbai. A total of 83 players, including 25 Elite Retained Players (ERP), 23 Retained Young Players (RYP), and 35 New Young Players (NYP), were retained before the event.

Over the two days, 500 players are set to go under the hammer, with a maximum of 217 slots available. PKL 12 auction is unarguably the biggest one in recent years, with some of the biggest names currently in the world of kabaddi up for grabs.

All-rounder Mohammadreza Shadloui, who has been the best defender thrice in the last four editions and is coming off clinching back-to-back PKL titles, was the most expensive player of the of PKL 12 auction, with the Gujarat Giants signing him at Rs. 2.23 Cr.

Raider Devank Dalal, the most prolific raider from the previous season, was the highest-paid Indian at the PKL 12 auction, with the Bengal Warriorz‘ last bid measuring Rs. 2.205 Cr. Left corner Ankit Jaglan has become the most expensive Indian defender ever, bought by the Patna Pirates for Rs 1.573 crore. The Pirates used the Final Bid Match (FBM) Card to secure his services for one year.

A total of seven players were brought back into their original squads, using the FBM option at PKL 12 auction. Out of these, two players- star raider Ashu Malik (Dabang Delhi) and talented right cover Deepak Singh (Patna Pirates) have been retained for a period of two seasons, using the new rule. The rest will continue to be in their PKL 11 teams for at least one more edition, following which a decision can be mutually made.

Another highlight of the PKL 12 auction was that for the first time in the history of the competition, a double-digit number of players (10) have become crorepatis at the auctions. Arjun Deshwal and Pawan Sehrawat have been united at the Tamil Thalaivas, with this raiding unit set to give opposition defences nightmares.

Naveen Kumar, who entered the auction for the first time after six successful seasons with the Dabang Delhi, found a new home in the form of Manpreet Singh’s Haryana Steelers. Left corner Ankush Rathee was the steal of the day, with the Bengaluru Bulls snapping him up at base price.

Shockingly, Pardeep Narwal, the most prolific raider by far in the history of the league, went unsold in the PKL 12 auction. Fans across the country will be hoping that he is picked up during the accelerated set on the second day.
