Pro Kabaddi League 12 (PKL 12) is all set to ignite the excitement among the Kabaddi enthusiasts once again as it takes off on the last Friday of the month, August 29, 2025. 

Ahead of the upcoming season, U Mumba have appointed Sunil Kumar as their captain for the 12th edition of the league, the club announced via a social media post on Tuesday, August 12.

Sunil Kumar is the most successful captain in PKL history with 77 wins across six editions. He was first appointed as the captain of Gujarat Giants in PKL Season 6 and led the franchise for three seasons before making a move to the Jaipur Pink Panthers.

The Indian defender guided the Jaipur Pink Panthers to their second PKL title in Season 9 and a semi-final finish in the 10th edition. In PKL Season 10, he was appointed as the skipper of U Mumba and guided the franchise to a playoff finish.

The PKL Season 2 champions, U Mumba, have decided to continue with Sunil Kumar as their captain for the upcoming edition of the league. In the previous season, he led the franchise to 12 wins, nine losses, and a couple of ties in 23 encounters.

The Mumbai-based franchise finished fifth in the points table at the end of the league stage with 71 points and a score difference of 16. They lost to the Patna Pirates with a score of 31-23 in Eliminator 2, which ultimately led to their exit from the league.

As a player, Sunil Kumar earned 54 tackle points in 23 matches in PKL Season 11. He bagged 8 Super Tackles and three High 5s from a total of 110 tackles last year.

U Mumba to face Gujarat Giants on the second day of PKL 12

PKL 12 will commence on August 29 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Vizag. The league stage matches will run till October 23, across four venues in Vizag, Jaipur, Chennai, and Delhi.

U Mumba will begin their campaign against Gujarat Giants in Match 4 of PKL 2025 on Saturday, August 30, at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Each team will play 18 group stage matches before reaching the playoff stage of the tournament.

U Mumba lifted their only PKL title in 2015, defeating Bengaluru Bulls 36-30 in the summit clash.
