The league has already seen many rescheduled games due to positive coronavirus cases.

In another setback for the Pro Kabaddi League, the match between Bengal Warriors and Telugu Titans will not take place on Saturday. The organizers took the decision after COVID-19 positive cases were reported. The match will be rescheduled to a later date.

As Khel Now had reported earlier, it is worth remembering that the league is witnessing several postponements due to positive cases in several teams. On the other hand, the contest between Tamil Thalaivas and Daband Delhi will take place as scheduled.

The Sheraton Grand, Whitefield in Bengaluru is the venue for Season 8 of the Pro Kabaddi League. The teams are in a secure bio-bubble in order to keep the competition running smoothly, amidst the pandemic situation. However, the organizers of the Pro Kabaddi League are finding it hard to keep some breaches under control.

Official Statement

The Pro Kabaddi League, through their social media channels, communicated the decision. They released a statement confirming the postponement of match no. 82 to a later date. The statement reads, “Mashal Sports, organisers of Vivo Pro Kabaddi League, along with the management of Telugu Titans and Bengal Warriors have decided to reschedule their match no. 82.”

Growing Concern

Positive COVID-19 cases have struck many other teams in the league, bringing an obstacle to their preparations. Patna Pirates reported several cases earlier in the past week, followed by Gujarat Giants and Jaipur Pink Panthers.

Responding to this situation, Mashal Sports, while releasing the schedule of the upcoming matches, had said,  “After the successful completion of the first half of the league stage of the ongoing season of Pro Kabaddi, two of the 12 PKL teams have found it difficult to field the requisite number of 12 players for their respective matches due to some players in these teams testing positive for COVID-19.”

As a precautionary measure, the league authorities took the decision to shift the players who were COVID-19 positive to isolated areas.

Disappointment for the fans

The news comes as a setback for the passionate Pro Kabaddi League fans who follow their teams religiously. However, the most important thing is the safety of the players at the moment. It’s a sensible decision by the organizers to reschedule the match to a later date, so as to contain the spread of the virus.
