Pro Kabaddi League postpones Gujarat, Bengaluru's matches
There were more COVID-19 positive cases that led to the postponement of the matches.
The Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 is reaching its business end, but the danger of coronavirus is still looming large. Post a break of two years due to the pandemic, the iconic Kabaddi league made a sensational return. The Sheraton Grand, Whitefield in Bengaluru is acting as the venue for the tournament.
Meanwhile, Mashal Sports, the organizers of the tournament, have decided to postpone more matches, keeping in mind the health and safety concerns of the players and staff.
Three matches were scheduled for Friday in the Pro Kabaddi League, but only two will now go ahead. The contest between Haryana Steelers and Puneri Paltan will take place as expected. The second match will see Jaipur Pink Panthers play UP Yoddha. Both these teams were to play against Bengaluru Bulls and Gujarat Giants respectively. As it happens, these two outfits are suffering from positive coronavirus cases in the bio-bubble.
A source close to the developments said, “Since both teams have returned multiple positive COVID-19 reports, they will be unable to field a team. As a result, the organizers are postponing their games and sending the positive players into isolation.”
A season affected by coronavirus
The organizers are trying their best to hold the Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 under a strict bio-bubble. Having said that, several breaches in the bio-bubble have led to the postponement of multiple matches. Teams like Gujarat Giants, Bengaluru Bulls, Patna Pirates and Jaipur Pink Panthers saw their matches getting rescheduled before.
Now that the season is getting closer to the playoffs, such breaches in the bio-bubble could be very dangerous. It is imperative that the stakeholders take proper precautions and that the health of the players remains a top priority. While the fans will be disappointed to hear this news, one cannot take any risks with the health of the players who were found to be COVID-19 positive.
