The Giants need to win all of their remaining games to qualify for the playoffs.
As the Pro Kabaddi League reaches its finishing stages, all the teams have geared up well. Their relentless pursuit is making every encounter witness mighty close finishes. On Sunday, the Gujarat Giants outplayed the UP Yoddha in a fine fashion to move a step ahead towards qualifying for the playoffs. The team talked about its strategies and how it was able to dominate over the Giants to a convincing win. Head coach Manpreet Singh and defender Parvesh Bhainswal speaks to the media post the win.
Chances of qualifying
Gujarat Giants coach Manpreet Singh talked about how desperate he and his team were of this win and how it boosted their confidence. He said, “Every match from now is important for us to win. As the tournament is in its final stages, a loss and we’d be out of the tournament. So, we need to win from here, then only we’ll able to qualify.”
Thoughts over the success of defence
Gujarat Giants defender Parvesh Bhainswal believed that defence was the key to their success against the Yoddhas.
“From the past two-three matches our defence having outstanding. Because of the fact that the raiding unit was performing well, it didn’t put any pressure on us. We started making attempts to tackle as well and not letting the players raid which I think worked well for us,” he said.
On handling Pardeep Narwal
Pardeep Narwal is always the player for whom no team would take the risk of showing up without any preparation. Coach Manpreet Singh expressed his views over how the raider was not easy target and the team had to work to freeze him. “There is no other player like Pardeep Narwal not just in PKL but the whole world. It’s not easy to tackle him continuously which I think we did courageously.”
He also talked about the positives which Gujarat Giants took from the win and how it would help them for their future games.
“We showed great courage and maturity while playing against them. We could stick to our plans and play our game against them. I think that is one of the biggest positives to take away from this game,” he concluded.
What went wrong for the UP Yoddha
UP Yoddha’s assistant coach Arjun Singh spoke on what were the loopholes in his team’s game and how their opponents were simply brilliant.
He said, “It was an important match for us. There were a few mistakes from the defence at the start but that was covered up well. We did inch closer in the end but the mistakes which we made before in the match costed us as we couldn’t get over them.”
Raider Pardeep Narwal also highlighted ‘defence’ as the key factor their opponent’s game. “Their defence was quite good. It wasn’t easy to score points against them. They outplayed all our raiders because of which couldn’t perform well,” he went on to say.
