On Sunday last week, the Jaipur Pink Panthers handed a shocking defeat to the perennially consistent and former champions Patna Pirates, with a huge margin of 41-22. Views on Arjun Deshwal’s stunning performance.
Arjun Deshwal turned out to be the star raider for his team in the match. He carved 17 points while raiding and was also the leading scorer in the game.
Jaipur’s coach Upendra Kumar spoke about his performance and expectations from him in the matches. “Yes, he indeed stood up on the expectations we had while picking him up. In every raid we expect him to get points for us. We don’t pressurize him and allow him to play freely,” he said.
On pulling off such a huge victory
The Jaipur Pink Panthers are currently eighth on the points table. A win against one of the strongest teams in the competition certainly boosted their morale . The coach Upendra Kumar said, “Yes, no doubt they are very good side in both the departments. The way they have played in their last two matched has been really good. But, the way our boys have played has been great too. They gave their 100% and it was a thoroughly deserved win.”
Pink Panthers’ captain Sandeep Dhull also revealed how his team badly needed this win. “This win means a lot to us because we were pushed down the table and we needed it. It will also help us gain our confidence back. Patna won their last game with a big margin and we too were able to do the same against them,” Sandeep said.
Patna Pirates coach’s views on team performance.
The Pirates’ coach Ram Singh Mehar talked about the unexpected performance from Jaipur and how his team were unable to respond to the attack by them.
He said, “we didn’t expect something like this would come from their side. Our unit faltered in both the departments, be it raiding or defence. This turned out to be our weakness for the day.”
The Pink Panthers will now be up against Dabang Delhi, who have also been performing well. The team would look to win the match and qualify for the playoffs in the end.
