The Telugu Titans raider sustained the injury against Haryana Steelers on December 28.
In a sudden turn of events, Telugu Titans’ star raider Siddharth Sirish Desai has been ruled out for the rest of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 8. The raider sustained an injury on December 28 against the Haryana Steelers.
“Siddharth Desai is out for the rest of the season due to a wrist injury. The management tried their level best to get him back in shape. But, unfortunately he’s out and will require surgery,” a source close to the developments informed Khel Now.
Siddharth sustained a wrist injury against Haryana Steelers before the turn of the year and has been out of action ever since. In what has been a season to forget for the Telugu Titans, an injury to their main man comes as another big problem.
Siddharth Desai has become an injury-prone player since his shoulder injury at U Mumba. He has often struggled with fitness, but when he’s fully fit, defenders struggle to get hold of him.
Ever since Siddharth’s injury, the Telugu Titans have looked out of sync. Moreover, they find themselves at the bottom of the table with 12 losses, three draws and a win in 16 games. They even have the worst points difference in the league so far this season of (-73).
A look at the numbers
Siddharth Desai is considered to be one of India’s brightest generational talents. He has broken multiple records in his PKL career. He recorded 218 raid points from 21 matches played in Season 6. Infact, he became the fastest player in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League to achieve the 50 raid points mark in just four matches.
Desai was the third-highest points scorer of the league in his debut season, behind two greats of the game in Pardeep Narwal and Pawan Sehrawat. He also received the "Best Debutant" award in 2018 for his heroics on the mat.
This season, the raider picked up 34 raid points including two Super 10s in just three games. He maintained an average of 11.33 point per match. It’s very much visible that his absence has played a huge role in the Telugu Titans’ bad run of form this season.
