The outfit won the league in the second season by defeating Bengaluru Bulls

U Mumba is one of those franchises which performs on a consistent basis in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). They were second in the inaugural season and followed it up by winning the league in the second campaign. The outfit managed to win the PKL by defeating Bengaluru Bulls in the final. The team’s performances in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh terms was also noteworthy. This makes U Mumba a consistent side that continues to perform at a high level.

Some reputed stars have represented the franchise in the PKL. Focusing on the second season, then stars like Anup Kumar, Surender Nada, Vishal Mane and Rishank Devadiga were part of the setup. These players were instrumental in making the side a title-winning outfit.

Taking a look at those players and what they are doing these days makes for an interesting read. The players who stepped on the mat in the final encounter for U Mumba are the focus. Here is what the players who played in the final of the second season are doing today:

Anup Kumar

One of the most respected names in kabaddi, Anup Kumar was the captain of the team and led them brilliantly in the second season. He scored 74 raid points in 14 matches back then, playing a crucial role in U Mumba’s success. Kumar turned out for Jaipur Pink Panthers as well later and is the head coach of Puneri Paltan today.

Surender Nada

Surender Nada, one of the most exceptional defenders in the PKL, also played a huge role in the team's success in the second edition. He was one of the best performers in the defensive department, scoring 41 tackle points in 14 matches. He will represent Haryana Steelers in the upcoming season of the PKL.

Mohit Chillar

Whenever top-class defenders are part of the discussion, then Mohit Chillar is likely to be included in it. He was the defender with the most high-fives in the third season of the PKL. While playing for U Mumba, Mohit scored 42 tackle points in 14 matches and played a good support role to Surender Nada.

The defender has not performed to those levels in recent times, which is a major factor in why he did not attract a bid at the recent auction

Jeeva Kumar

Jeeva Kumar was part of that title-winning team and he is known to be an expert at the super tackle. The 40-year-old was a huge asset playing in the cover positions, where he scored 38 tackle points in 13 matches.

Jeeva Kumar has not let age affect his performance levels. This is the reason why Dabang Delhi swooped in on the defender at the auction leading into the eighth season of the PKL.

Shabeer Bappu

Shabeer Bappu is a clever raider who relies more on his technique than pure strength. During the second season of the PKL, he provided brilliant support to an acclaimed raider like Anup Kumar. He scored 46 raid points in 10 matches for U Mumba. He played for Tamil Thalaivas in 2019.

Vishal Mane

Vishal Mane is a right cover specialist and has played over 128 matches in his PKL career. He is known to tackle well in crunch situations.

However, he did not find any suitors at the recent auction after a rather disappointing performance last season. Back then, during the second season of the PKL, he managed 26 tackle points in 14 matches.

Rishank Devadiga

Rishank Devadiga played for U Mumba for four consecutive seasons and helped them to win the title in the second edition of the PKL.

The player scored 58 raid points in 13 matches in the process. He will represent defending champions Bengal Warriors in the forthcoming season.

Fazel Atrachali

Fazal Atrachali of Iran was part of the U Mumba team but did not make the starting seven in the final fixture of that season. He was used as a substitute, but the defender could not score a point in the encounter. Atrachali is still in the U Mumba squad. He is one of the most important members of the team and plays a vital role in the team's defence. The Iranian played 24 matches last season for the team.
