Haryana lift 70th Senior National Kabaddi Championship tophy, Ashu Malik impresses in final
The match between both the teams was very exciting.
Haryana defeated Indian Railways in a nail-biting match at the 70th Senior Men’s National Championship, a major victory in the kabaddi world. The Cherry on the top of the cake is that they beat the favorites Indian Railways in the finals. The Railways had taken the lead in the first half, with a scoreline of 22–16, demonstrating their incredible skill on the mat.
But Ashu Malik’s incredible effort was what really changed the course of the match. Malik’s skill and sheer will to win helped him produce some well-timed raids which turned a narrow 7-point deficit into a respectable 13-point lead. With help from players like Krishan Dhull and Mohit Goyat, Malik established a strong basis for Haryana’s eventual triumph, winning 34–31 to seal the deal.
Ashu Malik performed brilliantly in the whole tournament
It was a perfect way to end the Kabaddi season for Ashu Malik having came too close to win the PKL this season. He was determined to win this championship which was evident in the semis, played earlier in the day as they edged out Maharashtra with a 38-37 scoreline. Nitin Dhankar was the hero of the semis as he scored a staggering 17 Raid points.
He got the perfect support from Ashu Malik and the reigning PKL champion Mohit Goyat. Their defense played a key role in stopping Maharastra and Aslam Inamdar who was put in an all-round performance, which wasn’t enough on the day.
Much like Maharashtra, another team that deserved the title was Indian Railways who came into the finals on the aftermath of a tied semifinal against Pawan Sehrawat’s Chandigarh. At the end of the full-time it was 37-37 and the game went to 5-5 raids tiebreaker where every team will get five do-or-die Raids to score points.
PKL stars from both the sides kept scoring points and in the final raid Sunil Malik became a hero with a stunning point to edge Chandigarh team to the finals. The Railways team were aiming for their 5th National Championships only to be stopped by the Ashu Malik express as he stunned them to take the trophy to Haryana.
