The record for reaching the incredible mark has recently been broken.
The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is the pinnacle of kabaddi in India. It is a very competitive league which is a major reason behind the sport’s rising popularity. The eighth edition of the Pro Kabaddi League is currently ongoing after a long gap due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. It was a challenging time for the kabaddi enthusiasts who had to wait for a long time to see their favourite stars back in action.
The auction before the event created a lot of discussion with several interesting moves. In order to achieve success, a team needs a balance of both good attack and defence. One of the most vital aspects of the sport is raiding. Teams earn a lot of points through raiding and the individuals that perform this role become central to any team’s success. Many star raiders have taken their team to success in the league. History is proof that one needs an exceptional raiding department to win any match or the competition at large.
Only 11 players in Pro Kabaddi League history have attained more than 500 raid points. The feat is very hard to achieve and only consistently good performers are able to score that many points. The eighth season saw a new record being set, which is scoring 500 raid points in the quickest time. On that note, here are the three players in the history of the league to score 500 raid points in the shortest time:
3. Pardeep Narwal- 58 matches
"Dubki King" Pardeep Narwal is widely regarded as the best player to grace the Pro Kabaddi League and his scoring record speaks for itself. He is the all-time leader in terms of raid points, scoring 1168 raid points in 108 matches. The iconic raider is playing for UP Yoddha this year. The Greater Noida-based team bought him for a hefty amount of ₹1.65 crores in the Season 8 auction this year. He is the most expensive player in the league's history.
Pardeep Narwal has previously played for teams like Bengaluru Bulls and Patna Pirates. It was at the Patna Pirates where he showed his real prowess and took them to three straight Pro Kabaddi league titles. Narwal scored 500 raid points in merely 58 matches. He was playing for Patna Pirates back then. He still remains the holder of several records in Indian kabaddi.
Maninder Singh- 56 matches
Maninder Singh is one of the strongest raiders in the Pro Kabaddi League. He is currently representing defending champions Bengal Warriors for the fourth season in a row. He turned out for Jaipur Pink Panthers in the first season of the competition. Singh reached the 500-point mark in 56 matches and was the quickest to get there until recently.
The skipper will hope to guide the Warriors to another league title in the ongoing season. He has a total of 746 points in 81 matches. Maninder has begun the ongoing season on a good note and will hope to continue his excellent performances.
Naveen Kumar- 47 matches
Naveen Kumar recently set a new record for scoring 500 raid points in the quickest time. This is Naveen's third successive season for Dabang Delhi. Known as the "Naveen Express," he plays as the key reader of Dabang Delhi. The raider has reached the 500-point milestone in only 47 matches. He is the only player in the Pro Kabaddi League to be born in the 2000s.
Naveen Kumar is one of the finest upcoming youngsters in Indian Kabaddi and his achievements are an indicator of his huge potential. At such a young age, he has established himself as one of the strongest and dominant raiders in the league.
