The two are set to face off in the seventeenth match of Pro Kabaddi League 11 on Saturday.

U Mumba and Bengal Warriorz are set to take on each other in the seventeenth match of Pro Kabaddi League 11 (PKL 11) at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday. Both teams started off their PKL 11 campaigns with defeat, but secured victories in their next match.

The Bengal Warriorz suffered a 34-39 defeat against the Jaipur Pink Panthers in their PKL 11 opener, before defeating the UP Yoddhas 32-29. While the defence didn’t perform according to its potential on Thursday, the Raiders stepped up. Maninder Singh scored eight points, while Nitin Kumar and debutant Sushil Kambrekar scored seven each. The team will be delighted to have unearthed a talent in the form of Sushil, and hope that he continues in the same vein in Pro Kabaddi League 11.

On the other hand, U Mumba their PKL 11 opener lost by a margin of 28-36 to Dabang Delhi, before defeating the Gujarat Giants 33-27. Strike raider Manjeet hasn’t got going yet, but Amirmohammad Zafardanesh has started off from where he left last season, scoring eleven and ten points in his first two matches. The defence was on fire against the Giants, scoring twelve tackle points, with only six unsuccessful attempts.

U Mumba have thoroughly dominated the Pro Kabaddi League match-up against the Bengal Warriorz and the stats speak for themselves. The latter had to wait until the Pro Kabaddi League fourth season to secure their first victory against the former, thus breaking an eight-match drought.

These eight successive victories for U Mumba also included one in the semifinal of season 3. Playing as the defending champions, they won by a comfortable margin of 41-29, but eventually lost in the final.

The two teams only faced off once each in Pro Kabaddi League seasons five and six, with the Mumbai-based franchisee securing victory in both of them. However, Bengal Warriorz won all three matches played between them in season seven, which included a 37-35 victory in the semifinal: with incidentally Arjun Deshwal being tackled in the all-important final raid of the match. Bengal eventually went on to clinch the title.

In the four meetings between them in the next two seasons in the Pro Kabaddi League, the season 2 champions resumed their domination, winning three matches, while the first and only tie between them was played out in season 8.

In the previous Pro Kabaddi League season, both teams were triumphant in one match each. While the Men in Orange and Black won 39-37 in the first encounter between them, the Men in Blue exacted revenge with a 46-34 victory.

U Mumba’s biggest win over their opposition occurred all the way back in season 2, when they secured a 31-17 victory (14-point margin). On the other hand, Bengal Warriorz’s most dominant victory came in the previous meeting between the two sides, when they won 46-34, by a massive margin of 12 points. The only stalemate between the two teams was played in season 8, with the scoreline ending at 32 apiece.
