Dabang Delhi vs UP Yoddhas: All time Head-to-Head record in Pro Kabaddi
In their earlier encounter in Hyderabad, the UP Yoddhas emerged victorious with a hard-fought 28-23 win over Delhi.
Dabang Delhi is set to begin their third and final leg of the Pro Kabaddi 2024 (PKL 11) with a clash against UP Yoddhas in Match 93 at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune. Ahead of the game let’s take a look at the head-to-head record of the two teams in the history of Pro Kabaddi League.
UP Yoddhas, previously known as UP Yoddha, is a GMR Sports-owned franchise. They have competed in the knock-out stages of all but one season they have participated in. They finished 11th, their only finish outside the top-6 in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League.
UP Yoddhas have banked on the prowess of their defence with the likes of Sumit and Nitesh finishing amongst the top 10 defenders with the most tackle points in multiple seasons of the Pro Kabaddi League. It was only after 2018 that the franchise bought the super-duo of Pardeep Narwal and Surinder Gill. The contribution of the defence started dropping despite the same defenders representing the team.
With the defence contributing lesser and the unavailability of Surinder Gill and Pardeep Narwal on the mats, the team left founding and ended up as lowly as 11th on the Pro Kabaddi League table. That triggered a response from the management that saw a complete overhaul of the core of the team with faces like Bharat Hooda and the experienced Sahul Kumar joining the side.
As for Dabang Delhi, they are one of the eight teams to have played in every edition of the competition. Dabang Delhi have played in the knock-out stages for five years running now, with the streak beginning in the 2018-19 season of Pro Kabaddi League. They have won the tournament in Season 8 (2021-22) and have finished as the runners-up a year before.
Dabang Delhi’s first few seasons had flashes of individual brilliance but the team fell short when it came to qualifying for the latter stages of the Pro Kabaddi League. However, they have managed to reach the knock-outs in every season since the 2018-19 season. This was the season when Naveen Kumar Goyat had taken over the mantle from the Iranian Scorpion Kick specialist Meraj Sheyk.
The 24-year-old has quickly established himself as an all-timer on the mat, having reached 800 points in less than 100 games. He has scored more than 150 points in all of his seasons and above 200 in four of the five Pro Kabaddi League seasons he has played. He helped Delhi win their first title and now with the partnership between him and Ashu Malik in the raiding department, Delhi looks stronger than ever.
