Uttarakhand all set to host 38th National Games from January 28
A total of 32 sports and four demonstration sports will be played at the 38th National Games.
Uttarakhand is abuzz with excitement as it prepares to host its first-ever National Games from January 28th to February 14th, 2025. With just a few weeks to go, the state is all set to welcome athletes, officials, and spectators from across the country with state-of-the-art infrastructure, innovative green initiatives, and warm hospitality.
Key Highlights:
- Historic First: Uttarakhand will host its inaugural National Games, marking a significant milestone for the state.
- Multi-City Event: Competitions will be held across multiple cities, including Dehradun, Haridwar, Haldwani, Rudrapur, and others.
- Green Games: This edition will be India’s first-ever “Green Games,” emphasizing sustainability through initiatives like recycled e-waste medals, solar heating, and electric vehicles.
- Mascot & Slogan: The official mascot, “Mauli” (inspired by the Monal bird), and the tagline, “Sankalp Se Shikhar Tak” (From Resolve to Zenith), embody the spirit of the games.
- Torch Relay: A vibrant torch relay, flagged off from Haldwani, is traversing 99 locations across 13 districts, generating excitement throughout the state.
- State-of-the-art Infrastructure: Significant investments have been made to upgrade infrastructure, ensuring world-class facilities for athletes and spectators.
The 38th edition of the National Games will showcase the best of Indian sporting talent across various disciplines. The primary venues are located in Dehradun, Haridwar, Haldwani, and Rudrapur, with additional events taking place in Rudrapur, Shivpuri, Tehri, Bhim Tal, Pithoragarh, Almora, and Tanakpur.
The official mascot, Mauli, was unveiled on December 15th, 2024, by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Dehradun. Mauli, inspired by the Monal (the state bird), symbolizes the region’s unique natural heritage and encourages young athletes to reach for their highest potential. The logo, also inspired by the Monal, reflects the beauty and diversity of Uttarakhand.
“We are unveiling the mascot, anthem, logo, tagline, and jersey. On behalf of the people of Uttarakhand, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allowing us to host this event,” said CM Dhami during the launch.
The state is anticipating the arrival of approximately 10,000 athletes, officials, and coaches. The torch relay, flagged off on December 26th from Haldwani, is creating a wave of enthusiasm as it travels across the state, with Mauli joining in the celebrations.
This edition of the National Games will be a historic event not only for Uttarakhand but for Indian sports as a whole, setting a new benchmark for sustainable sporting events.
