The Marina Machans’ head coach also revealed that Raphael Augusto had a knock and hence wasn’t used in the game.

The AFC Cup group stage game saw Chennaiyin win by a 2-0 margin against their Nepali opponents Manang Marshyangdi Club, thanks to two quickfire goals from Chris Herd and Mailson Alves in the second half.

Talking to the press after the game the away boss Chrring Gurung citied individual errors for the loss by saying “I have to say what we planned, we could play according to that till 45 minutes. In the second half my players commited just one mistake and they scored. Chennaiyin are of course a very good team and they did well.”

When asked about how satisfied was him after the team’s performance irrespective of the result he said, “I am satisfied with the performance of my players. It’s just that they scored two goals in quick succession and they won.”

Meanwhile, Chennaiyin head coach John Gregory was happy with the result and said, “I am delighted with the outcome. We have had a tough schedule coming to this game. We made some good chances today but most of the players were tired (due to fixture congestion). But, overall we got a win. Three points is very crucial for us. We knew a three points would take us to a good position and we got the win today.”

When asked how important this win ahead of small break in between was since the next game is after two weeks Gregory said, “It was important as we are going into a long break now. No ISL no other competition. It’s always good to go into a break with a win. You can think about the match, enjoy themselves and recover from the fatigue.”

When asked about Raphael’s absence in today’s game he quipped. ”Augusto had a little knock. Again we have had a hectic schedule. He had to face some real tough challenges in the previous games so he was rested today.”

When asked about the missed chances in the game he said, “We could have gone ahead in the first half itself but some of the players got nervous. But that is fine but we have to convert chances because better teams will get back to you if you don’t score the chances you get.” he concluded
