Churchill Brothers SC are set to kick-start their I-League 2017 campaign against Mohun Bagan on Sunday while all of their foreign players are set to miss the opening clash. Churchill are the only side from Goa to participate in the I-League 2017 after other sides like Salgaocar FC, Sporting Clube De Goa and Dempo SC decided to pull out of the competition.
Alfred Fernandes, the coach of the rejuvenated Churchill Brothers side is currently facing a dilemma as none of the foreign players are available to play the opening fixture. However, Churchill are currently without any injury woes, favoring Fernandes to pick freely among his squad.
The 52-year-old was asked about the probable team against Mohun Bagan when he confirmed all three of Clifford Miranda, Keenan Almeida and Priyank Singh will make the cut. Fernandes also admitted that he is yet to finalize his starting eleven which is due in the morning.
The former Churchill Brothers U-20 coach was hesitant when asked about his tactics against Mohun Bagan. “I can’t tell you my tactics. Because when this story flashes out, Mohun Bagan can be well equipped with our strategies,” he said. “We can have Wolfe available from the next match. Kroma, hopefully from the second or third match,” he added. However, Alfred Fernandes had also previously said that their base formation this season would be 4-4-2 but would change formations depending on the opponent’s tactics.
