Armando Colaco has been appointed as the new manager of East Bengal with immediate effect. The move comes after Englishman Trevor Morgan resigned following a run of poor results that saw the Red and Gold crash out of the title race.
The Goan who won the I-League five times with Dempo Sports Club has signed a contract until the end of next month which will see him in-charge of the club's two remaining I-League games and the Federation Cup campaign.
Khel Now had earlier revealed that former Bengaluru FC coach Ashley Westwood could make a stunning comeback to the country. But, it is understood Colaco, who was also in the running was approached after talks with the former Blues manager broke down.
Sources told Khel Now that there were two camps in the East Bengal heirarchy, one wanting to appoint Westwood and the other batting for Colaco.
This will be Colaco's second stint at the club having been at the helm for two years between 2013-2015. The experienced tactician recently spent a spell in the wilderness, before being appointed head coach at new club FC Bardez Goa who he guided to a fourth placed finish in the Goa Pro League.
