A draw would have been a better result-Nelo Vingada
The NEUFC boss felt his side deserved something from the game…
Following his team’s first ever defeat in the Indian Super League against Chennaiyin FC, the Highlanders coach Nelo Vingada felt the game was of a superior level against a great team.
“It was a great match, a match of high level against a great team. We lost but we derived some positive out of it, although the three points were more important. We played to level the game but failed to score a couple of good chances, a draw should have been a better result at least,” he pointed out.
Vingada fielded almost the same side making just one chanhe from the last game said that he does not want to use tired ness as an excuse, even though his players have played six games in 20 days.
“In the last 30 minutes, our reaction was good, Romaric and Sumit Passi created some good chances and Alfaro if he had not been tired, could have done better. I will not make excuses of tiredness,” Vingada responded.
When asked about his players appeal of a penalty against Bernard Mendy and referee Umesh Bora’s refusal he said,” I think it was not a penalty. At that moment it was easy for me to shout but Mendy was really fast. Alfaro was tired and Mendy got better out of it.”
On the performance of Jerry Lalrinzuala and former NEUFC player Siam Hangal, who assisted the solitary goal by Davide Succi, the Professor again praised the capacity of Indian players in all the teams in the ISL not mentioning any individual and also congratulated Bengaluru FC for reaching the AFC Cup Final.
“I think not only Jerry and Siam alone, Indian players in Mumbai and Goa that we faced in the last games are wonderful in their game, I don’t actually know their names but they are fine as well we also have a good pool of Indian players in our squad also,” he said.
“Congratulations to Bengaluru FC for qualifying for the AFC Cup Final. I wish them the best so that they can bring the cup for India,” he concluded.
