ASEB edge past Bongobir Ogrogami in Bordoloi Trophy
The defending champions confirmed their place in the semis……
Assam State Electricity Board beat Bangladesh’s Bonogbir Ogrogami 1-0 in a Group B match of the Bordoloi Trophy played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium yesterday.
From the very beginning the home team started showing their dominance over the opposition defence, but thanks to Bangla custodian Sabir Ahmed’s excellent show they were unable to penetrate the Bangladeshi outfit’s goal.
After the barren first half, ASEB continued their attack managing to score a goal in the 65th minute of the match with the help of a corner-kick.
The set-piece awarded to ASEB was taken by Sanjoy Boro, which with a splendid header Akram Narzary put into the net.
However, just before that goal Bongobir striker Rekib Ali almost scored for his team, but his shot rebounded after hitting the woodwork.
The Bangla team continued their poor show throughout the tournament and seemed visibly overpowered by their opponents. The margin of defeat could have been much larger if men from ASEB Sanjay Boro, Jwambla Brahma and the scorer Akram himself could have managed to score some easy opportunities they got in both halves of the match.
The best player was undoubtedly the scorer Akram Narzary, who displayed his brilliant skills and made several attempts down the left flank. He alone tore apart the Bangla defence capitalising on his natural speed and superb dribbling skills.
ASEB with 4 points from 2 matches confirmed second spot in Group B. East Bengal with 6 points from 2 matches finished as group winners.
