The German top division is back with a new season will the domination of Bayern Munich end?

The 56th season of the Bundesliga will commence from the last weekend of August 2018 and while the German league may not have been as competitive in the last few campaigns due to the blanket domination of Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga definitely delivers action-packed football that attracts fans from all over the globe. The attacking approach adopted by a majority of the clubs in the league generates one of the most entertaining displays on the pitch. The season's opening fixture will be between the Bavarian giants and Hoffenheim.

Year after year, the Bundesliga enthrals the crowds, filling seats in the stadiums and keeping viewers at home glued to their television sets. Therefore, we take a look at the top five reasons to watch the Bundesliga this season.

5. New Signings

Bundesliga clubs are not known to be big spenders in the transfer market and generally believe in growing domestic young talent, rather than importing established top players. The tradition seems to have persisted with not many high-profile imports being acquired apart from Axel Witsel (Tianjin Quanjian to Dortmund), Davy Klaassen (Everton to Werder Bremen), Michael Lang (FC Basel to Borussia Monchengladbach) among few others. However, there have been a lot of exchanges between the clubs within the league itself.

As for departures, Arturo Vidal to Barcelona for £31.50m stands out, along with Max Meyer and Andriy Yarmolenko also making their exits to the English Premier League.

4. Young talents

The Bundesliga is known to house the best young players among all the top European leagues. Some of the young players have already established themselves and will be looking to build on their impressive past performances.

Players like Benjamin Pavard (Stuttgart), Niklas Süle (Bayern Munich), Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund) and Leon Bailey (Bayern Leverkusen), will all look to further stamp their authority and impress the fans and their managers.

3. Opening day blitz

One look at the fixtures for the opening weekend of the Bundesliga this season will send any fan into a state of trance. While Bayern will host Hoffenheim to open their title defence, last campaign's runners-up Schalke will face Wolfsburg. Another contender for the title, Borussia Dortmund will play against the exciting RB Leipzig, while Borussia Monchengladbach will play host to Bayer Leverkusen. Mouth watering clashes all around to satiate the excitement of the fans.

2. The challenge for the title

While Bayern will look to win a seventh consecutive league title, teams such as Dortmund, Schalke, Leipzig and Hoffenheim would look to prevent history from repeating itself. Last year's runners-up Schalke will look to emulate their high-flying performance. However, losing Leon Goretzka to Bayern could be a big blow for them.

The fact that there has been a different runner-up in the last four seasons has only helped the Bavarians’ cause. While Leipzig will depend on their star man Timo Werner after the departure of Naby Keita to Liverpool, Dortmund would be looking to young starlets Christian Pulisic and Jadon Sancho in order to push for the top prize.

1. The Champions- Bayern Munich

The Bavarians are by far the biggest attraction that the Bundesliga has to offer. Apart from their sheer dominance, the attack-minded setup of their squad brings flocks of fans to the league and fill the Allianz Arena every matchday. With a new manager at the helm in Niko Kovac, who is a former Bayern player as well, he understands the demands of the club and has the capability to deliver, if his time at Eintracht Frankfurt is considered, where he pipped Bayern to lift the DFB Cup with The Eagles.

Having secured their 28th title last season, Bayern are again favourites to bag their seventh consecutive title. Moreover, with the return of loanees such as Serge Gnabry, Renato Sanches and new signing Goretzka, the Bavarians are looking as strong as ever.

There we have it, the upcoming Bundesliga season has a lot to offer and it will surely live up to the expectations of its extremely loyal fan-base. The Germans desperately needs their domestic football to take flight in order to forget about the horrid 2018 World Cup experience they recently witnessed. The ongoing transfer window can still bring in new faces to the league which will only add to the hype.
