The Goan club is in also negotiating to sign Anthony Wolfe for I-League ...

Since the official announcement of the All India Football Federation to include Churchill Brothers Sports Club in the upcoming I-League, club officials have been in contact with many players including Trinidad and Tobago striker Anthony Wolfe, who will most likely be their marquee player.

Their former striker Joseph Afusi who won the Bangladesh Premier League twice with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club as a coach, is most likely to be the new coach of the Goan club.

The Red Machines have hardly 25 days to rebuild their squad as the I-League is scheduled to commence on 7th January 2017. Looking at their current performance in the Goa Professional League where they stand 8th with just 15 points from 12 outings, their present coach Alfred Fernandes will not choose more than 5-6 players from the existing squad for the top flight.

“I have already given the list of very few players from the current squad which also include U20 Chesterpaul Lyngdoh,” Fernandes told Khel Now.

It is also understood that the club has shown an interest in signing start players like Mandar Rao Desai, Romeo Fernandes and Keenan Almeida. They are interested in goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani

“Talks are going on with them. It is going in the right direction but we haven’t finalised anything yet,” Fernandes said.

Midfielder Saran Singh and left-back Yumnam Raju who started their career with the Goan club, might also return as the Red Marchines franticly try to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

Churchill are set to be the only club from Goa in the top tier of Indian football and it is learnt that the club is considering a change in its name to Churchill Goa United SC.

When contacted by Khel Now Churchill Brothers owner and ex-MLA Churchill Alemao said, "Change of the club's name is not yet confirmed but we are considering the same. I cannot tell when it will be done." He added, "We are not here just to play in the I-League. We will be contenders for the title. Like earlier, we are building a strong team. We will bring in good foreigners."
