They put pressure on us and did not let us play well- Luis Suarez on 2-2 draw against Japan
The Sky Blues sit at the top of the group with just a point ahead of Chile.
Uruguay played 2-2 draw against Japan in their second game of the Copa America, leaving the Group C wide open for Chile to take the top spot. Luis Suarez said that the draw left a 'bitter-sweet' feeling as the Uruguayan striker admits that there were plenty of mistakes which cost them.
Japan produced an electrifying performance yet again but this time against Uruguay. In their first game against Chile, they had proved that they are not the team to be taken any lightly and with pulling Uruguay to 2-2 draw, they have shown that they have what it takes to qualify to the next round.
Koji Miyoshi opened the scoring for Japan in the 25th minute but it was later equalised through a converted penalty from Luis Suarez. Then in the second half, it did not take long for the Samurai Blues as Koji Miyoshi scored another in the 59th minute. The defender José Giménez rose to the occasion and scored the last goal of the game.
"We have to correct mistakes and praise the positive things," Suarez told reporters after the match. "We were the ones who created the most clear chances. That is why we left with a bittersweet feeling."
He continued, "We played a good game at a general level, but we have the consequence that in this kind of tournament you have two mistakes and they make two goals and you have to be more careful."
Match Highlights: Uruguay 2-2 Japan
Japan were the runner ups in the AFC Asian Cup 2019 and are the 28th ranked team in the world. The forward also was not shocked by the performance from the Asian side despite their lopsided loss against Chile.
"We knew that Japan's performance with Chile was not a true reflection," he continued. "They are quick, they have a lot of quality, they put pressure on us and they did not let us play well," said Suarez who went close to a late winner but was denied by the crossbar.
