Bidyasagar Singh also scored a brace as the Red and Gold cruised to a win.

East Bengal continued their dominant form in the Durand Cup by thrashing Jamshedpur FC 6-0 at the East Bengal Ground on Tuesday.

After Jaime Colado gave them an early two-goal advantage with his penalty and a calm strike, Pintu Mahata tripled their advantage after the half hour mark. Bidyashagar Singh scored a brace later in the second 45, before assisting Boithang Haokip in added-time to compound Jamshedpur's misery in their first group game. Here are our taking points for the match:

5. Can Jaime Colado be the leader in attack for his team this season?

East Bengal have refrained from making too many attractive foreign signings, as they did with Quess' arrival last season. However, Colado has been kept on and could be their own attacking marvel this campaign. Continuing his good form, the Spaniard showed his attacking instincts by sliding past the Jamshedpur defence and traumatizing them with his movement.

He earned and scored a penalty, after which he pressed Vijay Kumar into conceding possession and coolly tucked in his second. While he was soon taken off due to an injury, that looked a precaution. Colado is acting as their orchestrator in attack, easing up things for his teammates. With his goalscoring instincts and trickery looking at its peak, perhaps the Spaniard won’t allow Jobby Justin or Enrique Esqueda's departure to be felt.

4. Should Jamshedpur rethink their defensive strategies?

Jamshedpur had a horrible debut in the Durand Cup and looked a broken shell of their senior side. Granted, the team was a reserve outfit, but their defensive shape was horrendous. They played to the hosts' advantage, allowing them to move forward with pace and break through their defence. Coach Kundan Chandra had a day to forget and setup his side like lambs ready to be slaughtered.

Jamshedpur's back four played a high line, allowing East Bengal players to overlap them easily and the defenders created gaps in their shape. Moreover, trying to play out of the box resulted in multiple errors as well. Their defenders' individual mistakes did not help, but their questionable defensive tactics made things much easier for Alejandro Menendez's side.

3. Can Pintu Mahata find consistency in Menendez's system?

Mahata made a risky switch to East Bengal, angering many Mohun Bagan fans by moving to the arch-rivals this summer. He couldn’t really adapt to the competitiveness of the I-League and struggled in Khalid Jamil's system as well. However, Menendez obviously saw quality to rope him in. The youngster is blending into the Spaniard's system very well, taking to East Bengal's direct, fluid style perfectly.

Unlike at Bagan, where he was expected to create, he’s more free to express himself down the right at East Bengal. He’s obviously thriving at that, moving forward with intent to do more. Mahata scored his first Durand goal with a blistering run and powerful finish, showcasing his best skills all at once. The youngster continues to threaten with his quick movement and incisiveness, proving that if given freedom to play without pressure, he can be an adequate replacement for Laldanmawia Ralte.

2. Should Jamshedpur have kept some senior players in the team?

Well, it’s safe to say that Jamshedpur’s reserve side still has miles to go to reach their senior team’s level. However, they should've kept some senior players to raise the morale of the junior lads. The likes of Jitendra Singh, Mobashir Rahman, Joyner Lourenco and Swarup Das, all in the ISL squad, should've been played.

ATK played some senior players like Komal Thatal, Prabir Das and Salam Ranjan Singh to get them fit and improve their chances to impress. If some better defenders had been played, at least the humiliation of the 6-0 scoreline could’ve been avoided. They would’ve given a much better fight to East Bengal and allowed the senior team stars to get an early pre-season workout as well.

1. Can Alejandro Menendez's diverse style bring East Bengal Durand Cup success?

Unlike Bagan, who experienced an early hiccup in the Calcutta Football League, East Bengal have been nearly flawless in their campaign so far. They have played some fluid, attacking football which suits their players very well. Menendez seems to have understood the Indian football scene and sets them up with unique tactics.

Be it allowing the youngsters to have fun with their electric chemistry or working on the opposition's weak points, Menendez's style is hard to contain. As seen with Bidyashagar Singh's goalscoring blitz and Mahata's exciting performance, the youngsters are thriving in his system. If all things go well and his side maintain consistency in tough situations, glory could be East Bengal's at the end of the tournament.
