Kolkata giants East Bengal edged past Mumbai FC on Wednesday with a first half brace from striker Willis Plaza. Following the win against the Mumbaikars, East Bengal head coach Trevor Morgan dubbed that the Red and Gold players’ performance ‘brilliant’ while the visiting team coach Santosh Kashyap told that his players did their best on the pitch.
“I thought it was a fantastic performance", said Morgan in the post-match conference in Kolkata. “They gave everything they had today. Two wonderful goals from Willis, we were great today,” the 60-year-old coach further added. However, when asked the identical question, Kashyap answered, “Our boys did their best today.”
Mumbai FC has been a tough fixture for East Bengal in the recent years. However, with the win on Wednesday, some would say the Red and Gold Brigade has broken the curse today. Even with the comfortable win against the Yellow Submarines, the match referring went through a lot of questions after the game.
Mumbai FC head coach was asked about his feelings towards the referring when he answered, “the referring was good. Some decisions are always tough to take but overall the referring was good.”
With the win over Mumbai FC, Kolkata giants East Bengal has successfully retained the top spot in the League standings whereas Mumbai has also retained their sixth spot with six points. Kashyap, who previously revealed that his objective for the season to be in the top 3 was asked about Mumbai FC’s current position in the League standings when he replied, “The ending of the League is yet to come.”
Willis Plaza, who scored both of East Bengal’s goals against Mumbai FC was awarded the Man of the Match and later accompanied coach Morgan to the press conference. Following Plaza’s heroics against the Mumbaikars, Morgan was asked if he had identified his key striker in Willis Plaza when he replied, “I hope so. Willis’s goals today was top draw.” “When you have got somebody up front who can make, who can create chances out of nothing then you have got a chance,” he added.
Despite the victory, East Bengal’s defensive performance was left into shambles in the second half. When asked about the back four Morgan replied, “Clean sheet,” and concluded for the night.
