The former Manchester United and Everton forward expressed his desire to return to England for a new role.
It was an emotional farewell for Wayne Rooney as he played his final international match for England against USA in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday. The current DC United player received a Guard of Honour from both the teams as he concluded an extraordinary international career, where he capped 120 times for the Three Lions and scored 53 goals which make him the all-time record goalscorer of his country.
After his farewell game, the 33 year-old had an interaction with his former club, Manchester United’s website. He revealed his plans to end his prolonged career in the Major League Soccer (MLS) and that he will also look upon taking his coaching badges there. Rooney expressed his desire to return to England once he retires as a player and has already been looking forward to take up a new role there.
The former Manchester United and Everton forward revealed his plans to become a coach or a manager saying, “ It is something I’m passionate about and I want to do.”
“Obviously, I need to complete my badges, which I am doing over in the States. Hopefully, by the time I come back to England, I will have them completed and be in a position to accept or reject any offers I get,” he added.

“There is always time. You have got time to do TV, if that is the way you want to go. I think everyone is different. I would prefer to give coaching or management a go. If it doesn’t work out then I am sure there would be opportunities to do TV and whatever feels right for you,” he concluded.
Rooney, who started his career in 2002 as a teenage sensation from Everton joined the Red Devils in 2004. Over a period of time, the young boy became a fan favourite at Old Trafford and was a crucial member of the squad especially under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Rooney exceptionally made 393 appearances for United in his 13 years at the club and became their top goalscorer of all time with 253 goals in all competitions. By that time, he also surpassed Bobby Charlton’s previous record of 49 goals to become all time top goalscorer of England. In 2017, he returned to Merseyside to play for his boyhood club.
