FPL Guru: How your squad should look like for Gameweek 3
Written by: Ajay A K
In the goalkeeping contingent, Neil Etheridge leads the pack with 22 points.
Brighton's victory over Manchester United surprised us all last week and also affected a lot of FPL teams. Meanwhile, the other top teams like Manchester City and Liverpool beat their respective opponents. In Gameweek 3, we will be seeing Jose Mourinho's side taking on Spurs in a crunch match, while the other top teams have relatively easy fixtures.
This time we could see some surprises, so let’s take a look at the changes that should be made to your FPL team before the upcoming gameweek commences:
Gameweek 2 Review
The previous gameweek was filled with goals. Only three teams managed to keep clean sheets and Alisson Becker remains the only shot-stopper to have kept clean-sheets in the first two gameweeks. My captain Dele Alli did not disappoint. Although, 10 points was lesser than expected. Mohamed Salah notched up two FPL assists and Richarlison stayed true to his form getting a goal, but the main surprise came in the form of Bernardo Silva who did not assist or score a goal in his side's 6-1 thrashing of Huddersfield.
Only Virgil van Dijk managed to keep a clean-sheet amongst my defenders and goalkeeper. But, James Tarkowski became the highest points earner due to his goal in a losing cause against Watford. Leighton Baines turned up with only two points. Roberto Firmino failed to register a goal or an assist, but both Marko Arnautovic and Aleksandar Mitrovic came good, notching up their first goal of the campaign. The bench was in ruins though, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka given a red card and Tim Ream out with injury. Ruben Neves and Mathew Ryan too came up close to empty.
Gameweek 3 Transfers
Benjamin Mendy could be used as a possible replacement, as he is on top form and has assisted in all the fixtures City have played. Currently, his side has easy opponents in the coming weeks and could be a nice addition to your squad.
Jeffrey Schlupp for Tim Ream is a must transfer for all concerned, as he notched 11 points in his first Premier League outing this season due to a goal and a clean-sheet. The former Leicester man is a defender, but has started in midfield during this campaign. Ream, on the other hand, has been injured and won't feature in the upcoming gameweeks.
Gameweek 3 Line-up
The formation is slightly tweaked. I have replaced the 3-4-3 with the 4-4-2 instead. Salah is the captain yet again as he has a very easy outing at Anfield against Brighton and Hove Albion. Brighton have always had a terrible away record. Meanwhile, Liverpool have always capitalized on the Seagulls’ misery. Firmino is the vice-captain in case Salah opts out because of injury or illness at the last moment.
The back four comprises of Tarkowski, Baines, van Dijk and Schlupp. Of all the four defenders, only Virgil van Dijk has a home game, but the other defenders have games against mid-table or smaller opposition. Neves again sits out on the bench, owing to his fixture against Manchester City.
Bernardo Silva, Dele Alli and Richarlison join the Egyptian in the middle of the park. Arnautovic is preferred on the bench owing to his tougher fixture against Arsenal, while Mitrovic and Firmino start. David de Gea still remains as the first-choice goalkeeper, with Mathew Ryan again occupying the bench. The bench also consists of Wan-Bissaka, who is out for three games because of a red card he obtained in Gameweek 2.
