FC Bardez Goa outplayed Corps Of Signals as they registered a comfortable 0-4 win in the Goa Professional League match played at Corps Of Signals Ground, Navelim earlier today.
FC Bardez made some changes to the squad as Peter Carvalho was back from suspension, Anil Chawan replaced an injured Rowilson Rodrigues, Alesh Sawant was on the bench with an injury with Sarineo Fernandes replacing him. Joel Sunday and Lestan Afonso also found their names in the starting XI. Corps of Signals made only two changes in the squad as Sumit Toppo and Rinjoy Fernandes saw their names in the Starting XI.
Both the teams started the game on a good note but the first attack came from Bardez in the 6th minute. Jessel Carneiro from the right flank shot the ball inside the box, Joel Sunday timed his run perfectly and got a touch to the ball, but Corps goalkeeper Niyas Mon stood his ground and cleared the ball. In the 14th minute FCBG got a corner. Girish Naik kept it low and found Richard who flicked the ball from his heel, Latesh got the ball beat the keeper and shot it at goal, but the defender managed to clear it. FC Bardez got their reward on 21st minuteas Latesh Mandrekar covered a lot of ground beating two defenders and crossed the ball in only to see Joel Sunday head it inside the net to make it 0-1 FCBG. In the 27th minute Corps Of Signals had a golden opportunity to level the score as Pawan Thakur had a one-on-one situation but failed to connect. FC Bardez increased their lead in the 41st minute as Richard Costa headed the ball in from a free-kick by Jessel Carneiro Corps of Signals lost a man in the 43rd minute as the captain Romenjit Meetei was sent off with a straight red card for jumping on Jessel Carneiro.
In the second half FC Bardez made it 0-3 in the 54th minute as the skipper found Joel Sunday with a pass after beating two defenders right outside the box. The Keeper rushed out to clear the ball but Joel Sunday reached in time to fake the keeper and just tap the ball in the goal. FC Bardez made it 0-4 just two minutes before the hour mark as a corner from Jessel Carneiro was met by Anil Chawan who blasted the ball into the back of the net. In the 77th minute, Jessel Carneiro crossed in from the Left flank inside the Box to see Joel Sunday’s header hit the woodwork.
With the win FC Bardez go back to the top of the league with 22 points from 11 outings while Corps of Signals stay second from bottom with 5 points from 10 matches.
FC Bardez coach Armando Colaco said, "I'm happy that we won 0-4. I'm happy that Joel Sunday started scoring because we had a problem with our strikers and it's sorted now. The boys played well and I'm happy with the result.”
