The Juventus star also failed to attend UEFA's awards night earlier in the year avoiding it at the last minute.

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is set to skip tonight's FIFA The Best Awards night in London. The reason for this is cited to be the short gap between Sunday’s game against Frosinone and the upcoming Serie A fixture against Bologna on Wednesday. Therefore, the Portuguese captain will avoid the trip to London that may prove to be inconvenient due to the paucity of time as reported. Ronaldo was instrumental in Juventus’ 2-0 away win on Sunday night in which he opened the scoring with an opportunistic finish.

Interestingly, it is being reported that Luka Modric is expected to win the award at the ceremony. This will lead to the end of a trend where only either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo have won the award for the last ten years.

The award has been shared between these out-of-the-world athletes, as both havewon it five times each.

All is not confirmed yet, as of course Ronaldo will receive votes in his favour in a system that equally involves national team managers, national captains, representatives from the media and an online public vote that determines the overall winner of the coveted honour.

Both, Ronaldo and Modric, as teammates contributed immensely in last season's third-consecutive UEFA Champions League triumph for Real Madrid, in which Ronaldo's 15 goals proved vital for his team. Since then, he has joined Juventus for a sum of £99m, in a sensational summer move.

However, the captain of the Croatian team, Modric helped his team to reach the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where they lost the pivotal clash to France. Portugal, on the other hand, were eliminated in the Round of 16 stage of the tournament. Although, the Portuguese captain, Ronaldo, left his mark on the competition with a sublime hat-trick against Spain in the group stages.

Only time will tell who manages to win the award later tonight, although it must be noted that Modric was also awarded with the UEFA Player of the Year earlier this year, a fact that didn't sit well with the Portuguese superstar.
