Dempo halt Vasco’s winning streak in GPL
The Port Towners were unbeaten in their last six matches
Dempo Sports Club registered a fluent 4-0 win over Vasco Sports Club in the Goa Professional League match played at Ella, Dempo Football Academy Ground earlier today.
Joaquim Abranches and Floyd Pinto scored in the first half, while, Pedro Gonsalves and Desmon Pereira added their names to the scoresheet in the second 45 for the Golden Eagles.
With these three points, Dempo extended their lead at the top of the table to five points, as they have 41 points from 17 matches, while Vasco have 26 points from 19 matches.
Dempo made two changes to their side which registered a narrow 2-1 win over Panjim Footballers in the last match, as Floyd Pinto and Yogesh Kadam made the cut. On the other hand, Clarence Furtado made their debut for the Port Towners who downed Corps of Signals in the last match, whereas, Moises D’sa and Neville Albuquerque also made comebacks for Vasco.
Vasco had the best chance in the 10th minute, when Rugved Yeole brilliantly curled the ball into the box to the onrushing Aman Govekar, but Dempo custodian Tyson Caiado came off the line to collect the same, before the U-20 striker could do any damage. A few minutes later, Yeole nicely setup Moise with a short past just outside the box, but the lad failed to keep his shot on target.
At the other end, Dempo came close to scoring in the 23rd minute, as Pedro Gonsalves nicely curled the ball into the box, but U-20 winger Pruthvesh Pednekar failed to control his header from close range.

Dempo scored the opener on the half hour mark, as Vasco keeper Sanju Thapa fumbled with the ball in the box, taking advantage of the same, Dempo forward Joaquim Abranches easily slotted the ball into the empty net to put his side into the lead.
Vasco custodian Thapa made another mistake in first half added-time to clear Floyd’s cross, as the ball ended in the net to give Dempo a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time.
After continuous attacks from the start of the second half, Dempo finally managed to inflate their lead in the 68th minute, when Pedro, after receiving a cross from the right flank, made no mistake to shoot past Vasco keeper Sanju Thapa from 10 yards, making it 3-0 for the Golden Eagles.

In one of these, Rugved came up with a brilliant cross from distance to Beneston Barretto in the box, but Dempo keeper Tyson cleared the danger before the forward could strike from inside the box.
Dempo added another to their tally in added-time, as substitute midfielder Desmon Pereira’s shot from the edge of the box entered the top corner to cement the victory for his side.
