Guardian Angel SC hold Sporting Goa to a goalless draw
The Flaming Orange dropped two important points in the title race.
Guardian Angel Sports Club played their heart out to hold Sporting Clube de Goa to a goalless draw in the Goa Professional League match played at Navelim Football Ground earlier today.
With this draw, Sporting wasted an opportunity to overlap Salgaocar FC at the 4th position as they remained at the 5th spot with 32 points from 14 matches, while Angels have 20 points from 18 outings.
Angels had suffered a massive 4-1 win against Salgaocar FC in the previous round match, whereas, Sporting had eased Corps of Signals by 2-0 in the last match. The Flaming Orange had defeated Angels in their last meet by a solitary goal at Duler Stadium.
Angels keeper Ozen Silva rescued his side the in the early minutes of the match as Sporting midfielder Cajetan Fernandes tried to find Victorino Fernandes with a long pass but the Angels' custodian came off the line to clear the danger.
Very next minute, Sporting skipper Victorino easily cut past a defender to enter the box and sent a square pass to Stendly Fernandes but the U-20 lad failed the tap the ball in the empty net from the goalmouth.
Angels also had a chance to surge ahead in the 18th minute when Nicholas Rodrigues set up Sunny Fernandes with a low curler but Sporting defender Joseph Clement came to rescue his side with a timely clearance.

Sporting had two more chances in the second quarter but Clive Miranda saw his free header rebound off the crossbar, off Cajetan’s well-taken corner, whereas, skipper Victorino’s rebound shot was cleared off the goalline by Aslon Oliveira.
They had the best chance in the added time when Cajetan came with another perfect corner from the right but Alton Vaz’s header missed the target by few inches.

Sporting coach brought in Egyptian striker Fady Riad, Akeraj Martins to sharpen them in the attacking but they could not help their side to break the deadlock in the regular time.
Sporting had the best chance to surge ahead in the 75th minutes when George D’Souza sent a pin-point perfect corner to skipper Victorino in the box but the unmarked striker headed wide from 6-yards. Whereas, Clive and Alton wasted easy chances as they chose to go for the glory from the distance with their teammates in the better position to score.
