Nigerian defender Kouame Joseph scored four goals in Calangute’s victory.

Calangute Association registered a commanding 5-0 win over FC Bardez in the Bardez derby match of the Goa Professional League, played at Duler Stadium earlier today.

With this win, Calangute went up to the 4th position with 29 points from 20 outings, while Bardez has 18 points from 20 matches

The earlier Bardez derby had ended in a goalless draw. Bardez assistant coach Climax Lawrence who was in charge of the team in the absence of head coach Armando Colaco made only one change to his side following a draw against Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim in the last match as Danstan Fernandes made the comeback in the playing XI, whereas Calangute who had drubbed Vasco SC in the previous round had only one changes as the striker Blake Haldankar was back in the lineup for the Beachside.

It was just three minutes from the kick-off when Calangute took the lead as their winger Newton Azavedo snatched the ball from Bardez defender Lalbabu Matho and squared it to Blake in the box who made no mistake to beat keeper David Chauhan with his last touch to make it 1-0 for the Beachside.

Bardez also had a chance to quickly put the terms on the level when Inacio Colaco found Ronil Azavedo with just keeper Jason D’Mello at the stake, but Calangute keeper came off the line to deny Bardez forward in a one-on-one situation.

They had few more chance in the next 15 minutes but superb defending from Calangute's last line and aimless shots limited Pink Brigade’s options.

Calangute once again came close to scoring in the 33rd minute when Newton once again nicely curled the ball at far post but U-20 striker Leslee Britto failed to control his shot from close.

Calangute wasted two easy opportunities at the start of the second session as first, substitute Ashok Megheri headed wide from close off Blake’s fine cross, while a minute later, he failed to connect from point-blank range to Nigerian defender Kouame Joseph’s low cross.

A few minutes later, another chance went into the vain for the Beachside when Newton once again curled the ball at the far post but this time Mayur Shelar shot wide from close.

With Calangute attacking line failing to convert the chance, their coach Alex Alvares gave striking responsibility to their Nigerian defender Kouame and the defender scored a hattrick within five minutes as first he nicely headed in from close off Bersal Viegas’s perfect cross in the box.

Two minutes later, he cut past two opponents after getting hold of the loss ball in at the halfway line and shot past Bardez keeper David from just outside the box to make it 3-0 for the Beachside.

The Nigerian defender completed his hattrick in the 74th minutes when he made an easy tap-in to Newton’s low cross from the left to make it 4-0 for his side.

In the added time, Kouame added one more to Calangute’s tally when he made no mistake to convert the spot kick after Bardez defender Gaurav Vaigankar brought down Domnic Fernandes in the box to give away the penalty kick.
