Salgaocar FC registered the biggest win of the league as they thrashed Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim 8-3 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.

With this massive win, Salgaocar have 23 points from 14 matches, while Cavelossim has just seven points from 13  matches.

Salgaocar had won their last three matches against FC Bardez, Calangute Association and Guardian Angel SC, while Cavelossim were in a poor form as they were without a win in last seven matches. They had recently drawn against FC Goa in the last round match.

Cavelossim coach Severino Fernandes made three changes as Moises D’Sa, Perryson Fernandes and Ralf Fernandes found their names in the starting XI, whereas Salgaocar gaffer Norbert Gonsalves made no changes to his winning formula in the playing XI.

Salgaocar started the match on attacking note and took just 10 seconds from the kick-off to create their first chance when Nigerian striker Joel Sunday was in the commanding position to take his side into the lead but the striker shot wide from inside. Another chance for the Green Brigade went into the vain in the 10th minutes when defender Assumption Soares tried his luck from just outside the box but his shot deflected off defender Richard Fernandes and went into the hands of Cavelossim keeper Razak Devsor.

After some continues attacks, Salgaocar finally surged ahead in the 17th minutes when Gilbert Oliveira made a clinical finish from close after getting a through pass from Mackroy Peixote.

A few minutes later, U-20 striker Devendra Murgaonkar almost doubled the lead when he beat the keeper with a brave header but Cavelossim defender Michael Silva cleared the danger on time.

However, in the 25th minutes, Devendra header from close off Gilbert’s corner had no answer from the opponents as the ball finished in the back of the nylons making it 2-0 for the Green Brigade.
