History repeats itself but not always- Nelo Vingada
Before Tuesday game against FC Goa, Northeast United FC head coach Nelo Vingada met the press...
NorthEast United FC take on FC Goa in their second game of the Indian Super League season and Head Coach Nelo Vingada said his side’s poor record against their opponents in previous campaigns will not play a part in tomorrow’s game.
He said playing against FC Goa has special significance for him personally due to the Portuguese connection he has with Goa.
He also expressed concern for injured marquee player Didier Zokora as the former Ivory Coast international is still not match fit to play 90 minutes. Other players including Seityasen Singh have recovered from knocks and NEUFC are likely to field the same team that edged out Kerala Blasters on opening day.
Commenting on his counterpart Zico's successful journey with FC Goa, he said Zico is a great coach with vast experience and that his inexperience on the Indian subcontinent is not a factor to be considered. "I was also new to Korean football but made my team champions there.", he said.
He further added that good interpretation of gameplans by players on the field is the key to success for any team and declined to have any pressure on his players considering the fact that his team has never defeated FC Goa in ISL history.
He said, "History repeats itself but not always, we will do our best in the game and will make things difficult for the Goans."
On being asked about the most impressive Indian player in his squad, he replied," I never comment on individual talent. My team as a whole is more important.”
He had special praise for local boy Holicharan Narzary’s pace during the last game and said the player was the busiest man in the team running for almost 11-12 kilometres in the whole 90 minutes.
