Jamil wants to go on winning run, Nongbet blames early goals
Both managers spoke to the media after a one-sided game at the Barasat Stadium.
East Bengal redeemed themselves from last Sunday's derby loss by putting five goals past Shillong Lajong in an I-League match played at the Barasat Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday to notch up a 5-1 win.
Goals from Mahmoud Al Amnah, Eduardo Ferreira, Katsumi Yusa and a brace from Laldanmawia Ralte sealed a memorable victory for East Bengal. The consolation goal for Lajong was scored from a free-kick by skipper Samuel Lalmuanpuia.
At the post match press-conference, East Bengal gaffer Khalid Jamil looked relaxed saying, “This is a much-needed victory for us. A huge boost for us in the title race. We played well in the last two games as well but lack of confidence and concentration denied us a win. I hope we can continue this winning run in the upcoming games too.”
Willis Plaza, who has been under the scanner since the derby did nothing good in this game as well to prove his critics wrong. Khalid as usual stood by his star forward saying, “Plaza played well tonight too. But, he just needs a goal and then everything will be on track for him and he needs to get that soon.”

Syrian international Amnah who partnered who accompanied his coach to the press conference was instrumental and scored a beautiful goal through a solo effort. “I am really happy that I could contribute in the team’s success and you could see it in my celebration. I was feeling sorry for the fans in the last two games and was desperate for a win.”
On the flip-side, Lajong coach Bobby Nongbet looked short of words after his team was outplayed by East Bengal. “The first two goals in the 14th and 19th minute totally demoralized my young boys. In the second half, Katsumi, Amnah and Danmawia cashed in well on the opportunities they got. East Bengal’s defense too played well. But, we need to forget this game as early as possible and look forward.”
