The defender has signed a three-year deal with the southerners.
Reigning I-League champions, Chennai City FC have extended the services of local boy Ajithkumar Kamaraj for another three years, keeping him at the club till 2022.
The young left-back was one of the breakthrough stars from last season, as he played a crucial role in Chennai City FC's maiden I-League triumph.
Known for his relentless stamina and endurance, Ajithkumar consistently managed the left flank and kept the correct balance of attack and defence. The 22-year old often paired up with Nestor Gordillo on the left flank through his overlapping runs. Ajithkumar was one of the most consistent players for Chennai City in a relatively inexperienced and porous backline.
Ajithkumar has been one of the most exciting finds of last season and credit goes to Akbar Nawas for churning out the best talents in the state from the trials. He even shifted the 22-year old from midfield to left back position and he ended up playing each and every minute for the team. He has been a livewire through his overlapping runs from the left flank but his defensive side of the game still needs more maturity and awareness.
After winning the league it becomes crucial for a particular side to hold their players, at least the core members of the side. With Ajithkumar Chennai City have done just that. However, players like Gaurav Bora and Edwin Vanspaul have shifted loyalties and joined Indian Super League (ISL) outfits, Delhi Dynamos and Chennaiyin FC respectively. Spanish defender Roberto Eslava has also extended his contract till 2022 to keep continuity in the backline for the reigning champions.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]Chennai City FC were relentless last season and their Spanish armada played a huge role in winning the league for the southerners. Hence the club has also extended the contract of midfielder Sandro Rodriguez and talismanic forward Pedro Manzi, who also ended up with highest (20) number of goals in their last campaign. However, there are still questions regarding Nestor Gordillo's future at the club after Chennai City FC have accused ISL outfit FC Pune City of tapping up the Spanish winger without their knowledge.
Meanwhile, the southerners have also snapped up former Mohun Bagan and East Bengal midfielder Katsumi Yusa for the upcoming season. The experienced Japanese midfielder can be a vital cog in the midfield for the reigning champions alongside players like Sandro Rodriguez and Pedro Manzi.
