East Bengal sign midfielder Boithang Haokip, extend contract of physical trainer Carlos Nodar

Their latest acquisition continues another busy summer of activity for the Kolkata outfit.

East Bengal have announced the signing of former Bengaluru FC midfielder Boithang Haokip as their new addition for the upcoming season.

The Manipuri midfielder has sugned a three-year deal with the Red and Gold Brigade. The 28-year old versatile player could be a handy option for Alejandro Menendez. Haokip is primarily a winger, but has played as a central midfielder and even as a wing-back at the Indian Super League (ISL) outfit.

Haokip was mostly a  squad player at Bengaluru, which saw him feature in 11 matches for the Blues in the recently concluded ISL season, where Carles Cudrat's men clinched the title. The 28-year old managed to play only 258 minutes and scored only once last season. He also found the net against Transport United in the 2018 AFC Cup.

However, Haokip joins the Red and Gold with ample amount of experience. He started his career at Shillong Lajong and earned most of his plaudits there. The Manipuri midfielder has also plied his trade for ISL outfits like NorthEast United and Mumbai City, before his two-year stint at Bengaluru.

The Manipuri midfielder joins East Bengal as their second major signing after the club roped in Shillong Lajong midfielder Naorem Tondomba Singh. Haokip will definitely add more depth to the squad in the upcoming season and his versatility and experience will be important for the Kolkata giants.

East Bengal have also announced the extension of the stay of their physical trainer Carlos Nodar Paz, who has been an integral part of Menendez's support staff at the I-League outfit. The Spaniard has extended his stay at the club for another two years.
