I am happy for the fans and players because we needed a victory like this-Habas

FC Pune City ended their final league game at home with an enthralling 4-3 win against Delhi Dynamos…

A delighted Antonio Habas greeted the press after his team’s crazy 7-goal thriller victory over table toppers Delhi Dynamos in the Indian super League. The win propels Pune into the top 4 again, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

The game saw Pune trailing 1-0 at half time and things seemed all too familiar for the Pune faithful, going into the break. While Pune had dominated the game and even had chances to show for their efforts, they had failed to take them. A second half revival saw Habas’ side score four as Delhi refused to give up.

Talking about the game the Spaniard said, “You saw the match. You can see in the first half we had many chances. Penalty, Eduardo, N’Doye, Anibal, they all had opportunities. One slip-up and we conceded. At half-time I told them to believe in themselves, and you saw what happened. We worked hard and we have got the result,”

In Pune’s final home game of the league season, the home team provided the fans with something special. Habas said, “So, you know we played one of the best teams in the ISL. We are playing strong and well. For our fans, it is good, for us and for everyone. I think it was the best game for us and both teams. Both teams are playing good football. So, no one had to look at the referee, we just played. I’m happy for the fans and players because we needed a victory like this.”

Pune have propelled themselves back into contention for a top four spot in what’s been a topsy-turvy season in the ISL so far. Pune shall now face NorthEast United on Tuesday evening and that game now remains the 59-year-old’s only focus. “We are only thinking about NorthEast right now. We have a huge travel coming up for us and very soon we will have to focus on recovering. We aren’t thinking about the semi-finals, so we will focus on NorthEast and prepare accordingly.”

He continued, “You saw two games back we were out of contention but now we are playing well again and we are back on track. We need to remain in the top 4. The only thing is balance; we have to maintain that to achieve the result. Let’s see on 2 December, what’s our position.”

Pune now face three away games at NorthEast, Kerala and Kolkata respectively. They will probably need to win 2 of the three games to secure qualification to the playoffs.
