I am very happy with our second half performance--Zambrotta
The Delhi manager was pleased with his team's scoring spree in the win against Goa...
Delhi Dynamos FC produced one of the performances of Hero Indian Super League 2016 as they beat rock-bottom FC Goa 5-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday. The Lions fell behind to a Fulganco Cardozo goal in the 31st minute before a hat-trick from Marcelinho and a brace from Richard Gadze saw the Dynamos cruise to their fifth win of the season.
Speaking to the media at the post-match press conference, Delhi head coach Gianluca Zambrotta lauded his side’s performance, especially in the second half. “I didn’t like the game today in the first half as we weren’t able to change the rhythm and I was not happy about that. I was very happy about the second half as we maintained a very good rhythm, good pressure and possession to play well,” Zambrotta said.
Delhi are now second in table with 20 points from 12 games and look on course for their second semis appearance in a row. However, Zambrotta wasn’t prepared to think too far ahead and insisted that his sole focus was now on their next game against NorthEast United FC at Guwahati on Wednesday. “Unfortunately, we haven’t reached the semi-finals as yet. So we have to focus on our next game, which is against a very difficult team, and for this reason it’s very important to plan step by step,” the Italian said.
“We have a trip tomorrow and we have two days for the next game and we need to look at our players’ conditions and recovery and as of now I haven’t planned anything tactical for the match against NorthEast.”
Hero-of-the-Match Marcelinho also accompanied Zambrotta to the press conference and expressed his delight after becoming the top-scorer in the league (8) with his hat-trick. “I’m very happy in the position I play and it is very important for me that the whole team plays together and works together. We work hard under the head coach and we hope to give good performances and win in the future,” the Brazilian said.
When asked what it was like to put on such a display in front of the legendary Zico, the 29-year-old said: “For me it’s really unbelievable. I’m very happy to score and help my team. I need to keep it going for my team first and then my fans. I’m a very big fan of Zico and I wish the best for him. He’s a very nice coach. He experiments to solve the problems for everyone. If he couldn’t fix the season he tried to solve the problems, so that the next season could be better.”
