I think next year it should be 6 Indians and 5 foreigners-Nelo Vingada

The Portuguese lavished high praise on ythe Indian players in his team…

NorthEast United Head Coach Nelo Vingada looks confident ahead of his team’s fixture today against defending champions Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League. Talking to the media ahead of the much awaited game he said that his team is taking the game seriously. “We are playing against the champions tomorrow, Chennai still the champions”, he said.

However, Chennaiyin FC, the defending champions have a not so good record against the Highlanders in the ISL. They have only managed to get one point in their previous four encounters in the last two editions of the ISL. On that Nelo Vingada said there is no added advantage of previous record. “The league is pretty young to consider previous records, when it grows up to 20 years or so, there might be a factor of records, but not now. Chennai is a different team with different players and different approach this year and we are only looking at tomorrow’s game not on records,” he said.

The Highlanders already have 10 points from the 5 matches they played in the span of 15 days. “In ISL 1 it was 19 points to book a spot in the play-offs, last year it was 22. So, I think that should be the benchmark, We want to get 22 points as soon as possible,’’ Vingada explained on his team’s focus on course to reaching the semis.

When asked whether it will make any different in quality of the ISL if it has to adopt the 3+1 rule of AFC about recruiting foreign players, he said, “I had said earlier that personally I am in favor of more Indians in the starting XI. We have now 6 foreigners out of 11, two more than most of the AFC nations. I think next year it should be 6 Indians and 5 foreigners.”

On injuries he said Mailson Alves, and Saityasen Singh are not fit for tomorrow’s game and he is not considering any huge change of line up for the game against the Machans.

Repeating his faith on Indian talents he had some fine words,” To be honest, in my team the Indian players are very talented and the team depends on them a lot. Some other players in other teams that we have faced till now also impressed me a lot’’ he concluded.
