IFA agrees to replay Mohun Bagan vs Tollygunge Agragami match

But, the Mariners now want to be returned to their original schedule…

The Calcutta Football League sub-committee met yesterday to decide on the fate of the abandoned Mohun Bagan-Tollygunge Agragami match that was called off on Monday amidst controversy.

The CFL sub-committee after getting the referee’s and match commissioner’s reports has decided to allow the replay of the clash after 14th September at the Mohun Bagan Ground.

Indian Football Association (IFA) Secretary Utpal Ganguly said, "According to the 8/C clause a match can only be replayed if it is abandoned in inevitable circumstances such as bad weather for example.”

Meanwhile, the Mariners are now adamant that the IFA reschedule all their remaining CFL fixtures until after the replay against Tollygunge.

Following the meeting, Bagan Finance Secretary Debashis Dutta slammed the IFA and arch-rivals East Bengal. Addressing a press-conference he said, "We want the IFA to reschedule the match maintaining the old sequence and if it is broken then we won't play.”

He further continued, “The IFA is no longer the Indian Football Association instead it should be called East Bengal Football Association as it is now run as per East Bengal’s memorandums which is shocking. I would urge the IFA to crown EB the champions of the CFL from this year on and the other teams will fight for the runners-up position.'

This is not the first time that the Kolkata heavyweights have been in the news for the wrong reason. In December 2012, they walked out of a match against the Red and Gold after a missile thrown from the stands hit midfielder Syed Rahim Nabi. A two-year ban and a hefty fine from the All India Football Federation followed only for the move to be backtracked after an uproar.

The club have called an emergency committee meeting on Thursday which will be attended by Anjan Mitra and other committee members. They are expected to officially announce their decision of not playing a single match until and unless the Tollygunge match is replayed.

In this regard, Utpal Ganguly said, "I do not want to comment on anything I’m hearing from the media. Whatever decision Mohun Bagan takes, they will send it to us officially and we will take a call then."

Although the derby may be back on, the Bagan vs Tollygunge game may not be. Tollygunge officials had earlier written to the IFA stating that they would not play Bagan again as it wasn't their fault that the match could not be completed the first time around. This may result in a forfeit in favour of Bagan, who will get all three points without having to play the game.
