India women’s national team jumps up to 57th in latest FIFA rankings
The ladies moved up six places from 63rd in the updated table.
The India national women’s team have started making big strides in the FIFA rankings ladder and have moved up six places to the 57th position in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings.
After the FIFA Women’s World Cup concluded with the United States retaining the title, sees them seal the top spot in the latest rankings. Finalists Netherlands have also hopped five places to make the top three, while Germany retain second place. Semi-finalists England have dropped down to fifth, while France have held their own in fourth, despite being eliminated in the quarterfinals.
However, India have impressively broken into the top sixty and are now ranked higher than giants Iran or Jordan. Indeed, Maymol Rocky’s side are now ranked 11th in the AFC ladder, much higher than sides like UAE or Philippines. Australia and Korea DPR are the highest-ranked teams in the AFC circuit and the only Asian ones in the top 10, while Japan and China are behind them in second and third respectively.
The Indian women’s team have been in impeccable form in recent months, with a seven-match unbeaten streak in which they’ve won six games in compelling fashion, proving just how well Rocky’s done in making them a tough side to beat. After winning the SAFF Women’s Championship in Nepal earlier this year in dominant fashion, India also won two out of their three 2020 Olympics qualification games, but just missed out on qualification due to an inferior goal-difference than hosts Myanmar.

As the men struggle to get into the top 100 in the FIFA rankings on their part, the women are only going upwards under the impressive guidance of Rocky.
With the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup all set to take place in India next year, this is definitely be a positive sign of things to come. After suffering a small blip at the start of 2019, the Indian national women’s team have done well to represent themselves.
