Raynier Fernandes was the other impressive performer for the Islanders, as they picked up their first win of the campaign.

Mumbai City finally walked away with a victory in their third ISL match of the season and dismantled Pune, at their home fortress, the Mumbai Football Arena. Although, this was only their second victory over their state rivals, they have won the bragging rights for the match rightly known as the Maha Derby.

Modou Sougou and Rafael Bastos scored for the Islanders, who also missed a second-half penalty, while Pune were aimless throughout the 90 minutes.

Watch: Mumbai City 2-0 Pune City highlights

Let’s take a look at how the Indian players performed in this ISL match:

Mumbai City

Amrinder Singh - 6.5

Watch: The Mumbai custodian saved a good Nikhil Poojary effort

Amrinder was forever aware and sturdy on his feet and unafraid to venture forward. But, he was rarely called into action as he was well shielded by Lucian Goian and his newfound partner Subhashish Bose. Apart from the solitary block in the first half and another in the second along with a handful of catches, he was a spectator for most of the match.

Shouvik Ghosh - 7.0

Taking India’s most promising left-back's place and being able to live up to the standard of his game is a commendable effort in itself. He strode forward as well as defended his lines to the point that there were only a few errors on his part.

Raynier Fernandes -  9.0

Watch: Raynier had a wonderful shot saved by Kaith

Raynier is a gem being polished into a diamond. His brilliant runs and perfect passing was a delight to watch. He even put in timely tackles and ensured that his team found him wherever he was needed. He also marked out Adil Khan and broke the spine of the Pune City midfield.

Subhasish Bose - 9.0

If you are searching for Mr. Versatile, then you need to look no further. Bose was excellent in playing the calm person, to the fanaticism of Lucian Goian and ensured that he was there to tackle out any and everybody that strode into his path. Bose is excellent in all defensive roles and he has played like a man with maturity and experience.

Maybe, we are looking at India’s future captain and defensive mainstay!

Souvik Chakrabarti - 6.5

Souvik has ramped up his game as compared to his first home outing and looked more settled and confident. But, his errors did bring a scare to his team and fans, like when in the 29th minute, Souvik’s mistimed tackle nearly led to Nikhil Poojary scoring the opener, but Amrinder was there to bail him out.

Sehnaj Singh - 6.0

The rock of Mumbai’s midfield, Sehnaj barely moved and made sure he tripped his fair share of opposition players. He was okay at best on a spectacular night for Mumbai and did contribute by disrupting opposition attacks from time to time.

Substitutes

Pranjal Bhumij - 6.0

Pranjal coming in and not trying to score a goal is never a statement you will hear. He put a lot of energy into the attack and made sure the game was interesting till the final whistle. He is a future star to look out for.

Mohammed Rafique - 6.5

A hard-working and industrious specimen, Rafique was pumping in the energy into a tired midfield and made sure he bugged the opposition ranks at all cost. He is returning to his pre-East Bengal form and may even warrant a call-up from India manager Stephen Constantine.

Vishal Kaith - 4.0

Watch: Kaith had a mixed outing where he could have done better

Kaith needs to buck up if he wants to nail down the spot of the main keeper for Pune. His error in the first half led to the goal and his miscommunication with the defence did not help make things better. Also, after getting beaten by a player one needs to try and reach back to save the goal even if it seems impossible. The second penalty save was commendable, but not enough to save his team their blushes.

Lalchhuanmawia Fanai – 3.0

Watch: Fanai had a night to forget

Deserved yellow and heavy contribution in both goals for Mumbai City; Fanai turned out to be the villain for his team and led to their ultimate downfall. His selection might have to be introspected and looked into.

Adil Khan - 5.0

Blocked off by Raynier, Adil couldn’t reach the potential that he had shown in the previous season. His absence in the midfield meant that his team were left spineless and this proved to be true as Pune looked incomplete.

Ashique Kuruniyan - 5.0

The young gun was surely disappointed as he was stretchered off the field and his injury looks to be serious as he was icing his leg throughout. Kuruniyan needs to do more to ensure that his contribution counts and also be careful on the field and avoid running into tackles.

Nikhil Poojary - 6.0

Watch: Nikhil had a better outing than his teammates

The only bright spark in the entirely abysmal Pune setup. His shot on target was the only good thing apart from a well shaven Marcelinho coming in for them. He did his best running forward and made sure that his team had some teeth upfront.

Sarthak Golui - 4.0

Sarthak was a skeleton of his past performances and his gameplay was abysmal at best. He did not do enough to show why he warranted a national team call-up. He can surely do much better.

Substitutes

Robin Singh - 5.0

His arrival prompted the chants, “India Reject” by the Mumbai faithful and he hardly contributed to the gameplay or hold up as well as missing a sitter in the 48th minute, summing up a nonchalant display.

Gurtej Singh - NA

The main and only contribution of Gurtej was to the opposition as he conceded an unnecessary penalty, but his tackle proved worth it as Goian failed to convert and thus saved him the blushes.
