Mumbai City unveill new head coach Jorge Costa
The Portuguese replaces the Islanders' former gaffer Alexandre Guimaraes.
Mumbai City FC unveiled their new head coach Jorge Costa in a press conference at the Press Club of India in the city on Monday. Mumbai City CEO, Indranil Das Blah was beaming with joy as the announcement was made and he too joined the press conference and shared his thoughts.
The highlighted to take away from the press meet would be when Costa proclaimed, “Football is not ballet.” He was pointing out to the rough and tough aspect of the game of football and the physicality that it ensues.
The tactician sounded bullish and confident about himself and his team throughout and speaking about his philosophy he said, “My philosophy is to play good football and win three points every time we step on the field. I want my players to stay happy with the performances.”
The 46-year-old seemed to have done his homework before taking over the reins at the Islanders as he shared, “I've spoken to a few Portuguese players who have played in the Indian Super League. I've watched a few games as well and I'm looking forward to the season.”

He was also questioned about the physicality of the game which was a hallmark of last season’s Mumbai side and he responded, “The physicality during the game will depend on the situations, I like my players to play good football.”
