The Highlanders climed to the second spot in the league standings.

Pune City slumped to their sixth defeat of the season at home as Bartholomew Ogbeche and Juan Mascia helped NorthEast United climb to the second spot in the Indian Super League (ISL) table.

After the game, the coaches of both teams met with the media to discuss their respective teams’ performance.

Pune City interim coach Pradyum Reddy spoke about how his side tried to go for the three points since the start but unfortunately had to settle for a disappointing loss.

“We had our chances during the set-piece situations but unfortunately lacked the finishing touch. We didn’t create much chances in the second and perhaps we could have got back into the game had we scored goals from the chances we had.”

The Stallions have conceded 19 goals this season, more than any other team in the league. However, Reddy went on to support the defence saying, “I think defensively we were much more organized as we didn’t concede any easy goals. The first goal we will have to see who was responsible to mark Ogbeche."

"But I don’t have to say anything about the second one as at that stage of the game we really needed the equalizer and it didn’t matter whether we were losing by a goal or two.”

Furthermore, he spoke about how Iain Hume is not fit to play yet for full 90 minutes and that he needs to have more action time to get settled. That was the main reason behind the Canadian being substituted at the half-time.

Meanwhile, Diego Carlos- a key man in the Stallions’ attack, is out with a hamstring injury and as confirmed by the head coach, the Brazilian will miss a couple of more games.

On the other hand, NorthEast United head coach Eelco Schattorie was calm in his approach as usual as he confronted the media. Talking about the victory, the Dutchman said, “ It was a difficult preparation for the game considering the travelling which brings fatigue."

"But what was a bigger concern for us was that our centre-back picked up an injury and that meant I had to bring in Gurwinder [Singh]. He is no doubt a fantastic lad but then we couldn’t play with a 4-3-3 formation and had to change to 4-4-2.”

“The first few minutes we played well and looked like we had taken control but after that suddenly they [Pune] started to look strong. Then after making some substitutions in the second half, we changed to 4-3-3 and got a little more control," Schattorie quipped.

"Overall it was a fantastic win and we got the three points, but the performance was not good and it is not the way we play football”, he added.

The 46-year-old went on to speak about the way his players paired up well in the game, especially Ogbeche and Gallego. Although, he wasn’t much convinced with the team’s performance saying, “ We have had very good games this season but this one was our worst.”

The coach expressed his disappointment in the match schedule of the team saying, “I am not at all happy with it. We will now be traveling to Kolkata and then immediately to Jamshedpur which is probably really tiring.”

“This is absolutely not the way I want but it is the reality and what to do,” he concluded.
