Watch: Delhi Dynamos announce the signing of Xisco Hernandez
The Spaniard was one of the most consistent members of the Blues' squad in their maiden ISL triumph last season, as he made 20 appearances, scoring one goal and assisting five times. A playmaker by trait, Hernandez is a versatile player who can ply his trade on either wings and can also play in the middle as an attacking midfielder.
Hernandez scored his only goal of the season against NorthEast United in the playoffs, when the attacker equalized for Bengaluru in the dying minutes of the game. The Spaniard was also a towering physical presence in the Bengaluru squad, as he registered 31 tackles and 16 interceptions, while lso making 10 clerances.
He also made 703 passes in the last campaign, with a pass complition rate of 68.42%, which speaks volumes of his playmaking abilities. Because of his vision, Bengaluru boss Carles Cuadrat used him as a central midfielder as well as an withdrawn forward apart from his natural positions.
While Hernandez was a key cog in Cuadrat's gameplay at Bengaluru, Josep Gombau had failed to implement his tactics with Delhi Dynamos, as his team suffered injuries and the absence of suitable players made the Spanish tactician's job more difficult. The acquisition of Hernandez and Jerry Mawihmingthanga, both of whom are known for the work-rate going forward, will give Gombau more options in attack, while the former could become the Lions' ace in tricky away fixtures, where the side had little success last season.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]Xisco becomes the third signing of the summer for the Lions, who had earlier brought in former Barcelona B defender Diawandou Diagne and Jamshedpur FC winger Mawihmingthanga. The capital-based side had a disappointing season in the last edition of the league and they are expected to make more signings in the coming days.
