The Indian Arrows captain was one of India's best performers at the King's Cup.

2019 has been extremely kind to 18-year-old Amarjit Singh Kiyam. What started with him guiding his Indian Arrows side onto achieving a sixth-place finish in the I-League has continued his rise onto making his Indian national team debut. Kiyam’s determination and extreme hard-work in recent years are finally bearing fruit, with the youngster also set to make an impact in the Indian Super League (ISL) later this year.

Having knocked out Kerala Blasters in the Super Cup, Kiyam already proved genes to thrive in the ISL. Jamshedpur FC made the clever move off snapping him up last year and now gain a vibrant, young warrior in midfield. As the 18-year-old gears up for his ISL hurrah, we look at five reasons why he’s the perfect fit for the Men of Steel.

5. Industrial nature capable of reenergizing midfield core

So Jamshedpur FC are themselves going through a change in personal, with multiple midfielders expected to be gone before next season. There’s a face-lift taking place in midfield and Amarjit must be in next season’s plans. Among the Indian Arrows core, he’s definitely the most mature player with utmost concentration with his work in the middle. An extremely clever player, he knows exactly how to utilize his energy perfectly to not allow fatigue to set in.

The exuberance of the 18-year-old should itself be enough to revitalize Jamshedpur’s midfielders, giving Memo some breathing room in controlling games better. Kiyam’s impressive work-rate should also blend in with Jamshedpur’s possession-based style well, allowing him to give the best impression of his distribution ability.

4. The tough-tackling destroyer to defuse counter-attacks

While they had a lot of panache through the middle last season, Jamshedpur FC occasionally lacked that aggressiveness in midfield required to intimidate the opposition. Despite their creativity in midfield, the Men of Steel ironically lacked boldness in forming a compact midfield line which would be very difficult to penetrate. However, Kiyam can act as such in midfield, thanks to his workaholic nature and tough-tackling demeanour when required.

Not only is he agile enough to press oppositions intensely to give away possession, but Amarjit’s also got a strong tackle on him required to crunch the ball from the opposition. No more will opponents find it easy to run past their midfielders during counter-attacks, as Amarjit can also act as a destroyer required to win back possession and bring the opposition midfielders onto their knees.

3. Leadership skills beneficiary in controlling games

Amarjit Singh’s work as a captain, be it with Indian Arrows or the junior-level Indian national teams is well known, as he’s often the driving force as the leader. Now, obviously he wouldn’t be the inspired captain for Jamshedpur FC due to his inexperience, but his leadership traits can work wonders in reinvigorating the emotions in the side.

Singh’s ability to fight from the front in controlling games, driving his team forward can definitely allow Jamshedpur FC to dominate game more often from midfield. The teenager's a robust character in the field, running around all over, looking to create chances and hounding down oppositions, something that’ll reflect positively among his compatriots.

2. Suits the Spanish style integrated at Jamshedpur FC

In a system which encourages a possession-based style and having to distribute the ball all over to create goals, a bright youngster like Kiyam should soar through. The 19-year-old’s already quite prolific in controlling possession, having improved his distribution ability exponentially over the past few years.

Kiyam thrives in a system which encourages calling for the ball, distributing it forward and looking to beautifully tread together soothing goals. The youngster’s impressive calmness in possession, ability to find together the perfect passes and improving vision for creative passes forward will perfectly suit Jamshedpur’s style. The Men of Steel will encourage him to tap into his ability and soar in the precise, passing style of football.

While they might have struggled to break their playoff duck in their short history, Jamshedpur FC’s long-term goal is always to produce the top Indian footballers who will go onto shine in the national level. Their motto is to give more exposure and playing time to inexperienced youngsters to help them stand shoulder-to-shoulder against the country’s best. Thankfully for Kiyam, he’s at a club where his talent will be honoured.

He should get quite a lot of game-time next season, mostly starting many games and proving his ability as a clever centre-midfielder. The teenager's hard-working ability should guarantee him ample playing-time to prove his natural ability when it comes to controlling games and dominating midfield. Jamshedpur will allow him to tap into his utmost potentially, accelerating Kiyam’s evolution into the dynamic centre-midfielder India craves for.
